Default 2009 MLB Playoffs

The Twins/Tigers game yesterday was a classic. I'm pretty excited that the playoffs are starting today. Obviously I'm putting my vote in for the Yanks. They had the best record in baseball, some of the best pitching, a powerfull line up, and they are my favorite team!

I'm sure others may disagree, and I could be wrong, but, who do you think has a legitimate shot in the playoffs/world series?

I'm rooting for the Twins, and then the Phillies. Gotta love the Yanks though, best team money can buy.

These are my picks:

National League Division Series
Colorado/Philadelphia: Winner Philadelphia
St.Louis/LA Dodgers: Winner St. Louis

American League Division Series
Boston/LA Angels: Winner LA
Minnesota/New York Yankees: Winner New York

National League Championship Series
Philadelphia/St.Louis: Winner St. Louis

American League Championship Series
New York Yankees/LA Angels: Winner New York

World Series
New York Yankees/St. Louis: Winner New York

Yankees have beat up on the Twins. They only won 2 games over the last 20 games or so. This is the year I think the Yanks will finally beat the Angels. If they get to the WS, home field advantage!!!!

My picks/wishful thinking:

National League Division Series
Colorado/Philadelphia: Winner Philadelphia
St.Louis/LA Dodgers: Winner LA Dodgers

American League Division Series
Boston/LA Angels: Winner Boston
Minnesota/New York Yankees: Winner New York

National League Championship Series
Philadelphia/LA Dodgers: Winner LA Dodgers

American League Championship Series
New York Yankees/Boston: Winner New York

World Series
New York Yankees/LA Dodgers: Winner New York

I'm a lifelong Yankees fan and would love nothing more than to see them beat overrate Torre in the WS. Too bad, it wont happen since as in typical Torre fashion he destroyed all the arms out in LA and they crumbled down the stretch and will probably get bounced in the first round.

Have tickets to tonight's game and Game 7 (hopefully necessary) of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium. Would love nothing more than to see NYY-Boston Game 7.

my picks. I put 0 stock in the Twins, Dodgers, and Red Sox this year. NYY is a cliche pick, but damn if they didn't buy a ring this year. great pitching, great hitting. I hope they DON'T resign Matsui, just like Jason Giambi. They gotta get younger.

Colorado vs Philadelphia is the toughest to pick in the first round. Cliff Lee vs the Rockie Offense. yikes

Nothing will ever beat the 1978 World Series, you can't recreate that event.

Steve Garvey, Ron Sutton, Ron Cey vs. Greg Nettles, Thurman Munson, Goose Gossage, and Reggie Jackson. Totally F'in epic.

NLDS
Phillies over the Rockies
Cardinals over the Dodgers

The Phillies are too good of a team for Colorado. Cliff Lee pitched a great game against CO today, Hamels is too good as well...add in offensive firepower from Howard & Co. = Rockies won't get far at all.

Cardinals are the best team in the NL. Since acquiring Lugo & Holliday, the offense is unstoppable. Carpenter and the rest of the Cards' staff is much better than the Dodgers....+ Manny is not playing as well as he can play lately.

ALDS
Red Sox over the Angels
Yankees over the Twins

The Red Sox have had the Angels' number in the postseason. The BoSox are healthy again and have a DEEP pitching staff/bullpen + the offensive firepower to push them past the Angels.

The Yankees are the team to beat as of right now. Their lineup is stacked and Sabathia is a monster. Twins had a great run, but it ends here.

NLCS
Cardinals over Phillies

While the Phillies have the talent to win it all again, their closer situation is horrible. Lidge has blown 11 saves this year. Madsen blew another 6 or 7. The Cardinals are too good and will make it to the W.S. this year on the bats of Pujols & Holliday and the arms of Carpenter & Wainwright

ALCS

Being from Boston, I have to take my Sox. The season series was basically even with the Sox dominating early and the Yankees dominating late. I am still not convinced that A-Rod can hit in the playoffs. I am convinced that Beckett is the best post season pitcher in the AL still and that Lester is the best lefty in the AL this year. I will take the BoSox in 6.

World Series
BoSox over Cards

You can make the case that the Rockies have been the best team in the NL coming down the stretch since June 4. 72-38.

Could definitely do that. Rocks are a streaky team...not discounting them, but the Phils are too strong in that series. The Dodgers and Cards is the NL series to watch. If Manny gets hot and Wolf can pitch well in game one, it could be an interesting series.

Yeah Anaheim (yes Anaheim) & Boston is the only other series I'm interested in seeing besides the Dodgers & Cards in this round. I think LA vs St Lois can be a long series with the Dodgers taking it provided they take advantage of home field.

Yep...I agree....The Yanks are as close to a sure thing against the Twins as one can get....The Sox/Angels & the Dodgers/Cards are the ones to watch. I don't believe that the Angels can get past the Yankees, but I do believe the BoSox could. As for the Dodgers/Cards - whoever wins that series is my pick to go to the World Series for the NL. I am strongly leaning to the Cards, but never know.
