How much more can they cut down on Blu rays? At the Walmart in White Plains, NY they have one endcap and it's never even full.

As far as DVDs, who cares? I stopped buying those a long time ago.

I am still a bit confused on this story. So..are they just going to carry newer releases, are they getting rid of sd dvd that are a bit dated, or are they just going to stop carrying sd dvds/blus altogether. Take the recent news of Transformers: ROTF. WM is going to have an exclusive IMAX version...a version that I would think many people on this site are going to want. How long will this exclusive be avaible to buy?? End of the year..spring..what??

I was at Wal Mart the other day, and the Blu selection was very minimal and shitty. However, I did pick up the new Journey "Live In Manila" Double DVD for $10.

Really all depends on the store. I have 2 different Wal-Marts about equal distance from me. One only has an end cap with a selection of maybe 10 new releases and 5 catalog titles on Blu-ray at any given time.

The other store has 2 small glass cabinets (they require an employee to unlock and retrieve a Blu-ray from) both cabinets feature about 20 different Blu-ray titles, new and old to choose from. Their Blu-ray player selection is in on the shelves between these 2 cabinets.

Here's a question for anyone that wants to answer this...why would a movie studio give an exclusive version of their big summer flick to a retailer that wants to cut down on their dvd/blu inventory?? Just does not seem that great of an idea, lol. Kind of like giving all my savings to Madoff, lol.

I don't think they will stop selling new or recent releases; but I can see them eliminating much of the aisles of DVDs that have been out for years but are just collecting dust. I remeber just recently seeing some of the season 1 releases of masters of horror DVDs with an inch of dust on them - I think this is what they want to eliminate. As a business, I think Walmart understands that blu-ray sales are up, DVD sales are down and they will continue to stock both with new and recent releases, they just won't carry/order releases that are older or not selling very well.

I've also noticed and wondered why the selection of Blurays, including new releases, have dramatically decreased over the last month or so in both the Wall-E Marts in my hometown....this announcement answers my query. They don't even have the exclusive Walmart Edition of the 70th Anniversary The Wiz of Oz BD. Too bad, I always thought their pricing structure was very competitive.

the walmarts here have a pretty small and crappy movie selection anyway so yeah...even if they literally stopped selling them it wouldnt bother me in the least. i get all my movies from either HMV, best buy/futureshop or amazon anyway.

Their prices aren't competitive with Amazon, and they don't pricematch with online retailers like Best Buy does, so who cares. Only time I ever buy there is the 5.00 bin for dvds that aren't on blu-ray and probably won't be anytime soon.

I always thought Target had a better movie selection then Walmart. And Target always has some cool sales on both Blu-Ray and DVD.
Best Buy however is better then both.

In the rather new super Wall-Mart where I live they have already done the aisle clean up in the whole store. The resulting look is no clutter and vast space... especially in the main aisle that is just inside of the 30 + check stands. The same is true in electronics...... no stacks of boxed TVs in the aisle or DVD cardboard stand ups. Earlier this summer they also seemed to mostly cut out the first week larger discounts on DVD and BD. They will still meet comp but now they ask to see an ad from the customer. They used to have all competitive ads at the counter and quickly met comp. There used to be a sign guaranteed lowest price...let us do the shopping for you by the DVDs. In the past month, the Blu-Ray display has moved from easily visible end cap to two cabinets with about 30 titles each with a Blu-Ray player display between the two of them. It is in a back aisle behind games. Also, a poor selection of players.....one each entry level Sony, Samsung and Panasonic and a under $200 Magnavox (??). New releases in both Blu-Ray and DVD are now one small end cap for both.

On the other hand, the Fred Meyer store is getting more aggressive on both pricing and selection. They keep a good line of recent and older titles neatly organized. They price most Blu-Rays at $ 29.95 but recently have offered near same prices as Best Buy on new releases.. This past week all Blu-Ray titles were 30% off the regular Fred Meyer price. This brought top new releases like Snow White to $20.99.

The Wal-Mart move is strange and the lack of selection is even stranger.

Wal-Mart is a quiffy store anyway.

I only go inside a Wal-Mart once every two years or so, and every time I do, it seems to attract Spanish speaking or White Trash people.

It's the kind of store where you see parents trying to take control of their three kids while they wear a stained tank top and have crappy hair.
