'Slow Down'
Do you ever watch kids
On a merry go round?
Or listen to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever follow a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gaze at the sun
Into the fading night?
Better slow down
Dont dance so fast
Time is short
The music wont last
Do you run thru each day
On the fly?
When you ask How are you
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed?
With the next hundred chores
Running thru your head?
Better slow down
Dont dance so fast
Time is short
The music wont last
Ever tell your child
We'll do it tomomrow?
And in your haste
Not see his sorrow?
Do you ever lose touch?
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say Hi
Better slow down
Dont dance so fast
Time is short
The music wont last
When you run and rush to get somewhere
You miss half the fun getting there
When you hurry and worry thru your day
It is like an unopened gift thrown away
Life is not a race
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over
I memorized this poem because when I first read it, I learned it was written by a terminnally ill teen age girl with cancer. She is in a hospital in NY and she has been given 6 months to live. Her dying wish was for as many people as possible to read her poem to see if people get it and to live each day life has given you..which she can not right now.
I just thought it was touching and worth sharing. Reminds you that no matter how bad you think you have it, somewhere someone has it a bit worse than you but they still want to move forward the best that they can.
