Default Olympic Foolery!

First they dick with the fireworks, now this:

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/bei...urn=oly,100162

They've been accused of using underaged gymnast and I even heard they fucked with the pool which is causing all these records. Is China fucking up the Olympics? Discuss

I dont know about the pool... only records I see being broken are from Michael Phelps, who's a Swimming GOD... I doubt they'd do anything to help the US smoke China in every swimming event.

They haven't messed with the pool, the Cube is just more advanced with whatever it might be. I was watching the Today Show and Matt Lauer said that it is the "fastest" pool in the world. Add the new LZR Speedos that many people are using, and then records are being broken left and right. The Watercube is just brilliant really, as opposed to fucking it up intentionally.

And the fireworks is being heavily blown out of proportion. It was even mentioned in the broadcast that some of it was CGI >.>

I think that the gymnast thing is the worst. Faking records to win ? That is messed up. That shows state level cheating, not just some coach.

The pool is deeper and wider than normal which makes it faster. At least everyone is swimming in the same pool so they all have the same advantage. I found one article here.

Guess there is also a possible problem with two of China's gymnast being only 14. Not sure if it's just a misunderstanding or they are really underage and their passports were forged. Found one article here.

There's actually a lot of swimming records being broken. I believe on the 4x100 relay three or four teams broke the world's record for that race alone. The US won and beat it the most so that's mostly what you heard about.

I don't know much about swimming but do any of you consider the Speedo's are a form of technological doping? Something like 27 of the 30 medals in swimming have had the athletes wearing the LZR's. I think that it does give a somewhat unfair advantage to the simmers who wear them. Anyone else think that?

Hard to say. It does decrease drag, but it's hard to say how much of an advantage it gives you. Basically, all the athletes will tell you that the suit is only part of the equation (and not a huge part as is). And not to mention, training programs for swimming athletes are improving considerably.

It sounds like the gymnasts really are underage but the international officials hands are tied as the athletes have official papers showing they are old enough. Since the government has very tight control over the country they can make sure that all the paperwork is faked good enough that nobody will be able to tell the truth.

No but they faked the singing in the opening ceremony! They had the winner of the competition actually singing the Chinese anthem while some little girl was lip synching. The reason?!! The winner of the competition had crooked teeth and the Politburo stepped in and said "Oh ruck we rant have that!!"

They do that here in the US all the time. Anywhere you have choreography and a large stadium it's pretty much required because of sound delay.

And using beautiful people instead of ugly people? oh for shame...

Yeah, it pisses me off knowing that I will never win a gold medal in my regular swimming trunks. The kind with the mesh lining that I have never figured out the purpose of. Now I know why it is there: to add drag and make me less arrowdinamic. They know I can't afford that damn suit.

I dont mind it... there's ways to "tweak" your performance in everything.. as long as your drug free and uniform compliant anything goes. Bobsleds use specialty waxes and are always looking for something better.. Nascar tries different tires and oils, etc.. technology is a part of everything.. I dont see it as a problem other then the poor bastards that cant keep up with technology.

Should every tennis player use the same racket and strings?? Of course not... some like heavier rackets, some like feather-light, it's what your comfortable with and what you find "enhances" your ability the most. Same thing with Golf Clubs.. not every Pro uses the same brand and not everyone has success even with the best models.. more or less at that point it's a matter of what your most comfortable with... I think Lance Armstrong coulda beat the French riding a Mongoose.. but I doubt he had a better bike then them... he was just better himself.

As long as the suit is freely available for every contender I see no problem with that.

Michael Phelps doesn't wear the suit and has won the most gold medals in Olympic history. He just wears swim pants. So... what's the issue here?

Well Phelps has those drugs to help him out ..... oh wait - nobody has ever caught him but I bet a lot of people think about it with his total domination of the sport. He is in a league of his own.
