I like to work on both at the same time (distance days then speed days) so by the time I'm half way through i can knock out a longer distance in a shorter time. Consider one or two days a week (assuming you run 5) to be days where you run intervals and I would bet you would get faster and enjoy your distance runs more.

An up close look at Everest. My favorite obstacle on the TM course.

It's awesome to see people standing there, staring at it, wondering "how the hell....?".
The course is just fun.

thanks , I think I may try the tape instead of the socks (read the duct tape trick somewhere else too). I tried moleskin today and the strips came loose.
congrats on the 5 mile mark. Im supposed to hit 5 on my next run in two days. and Im going to go the distance over speed route too. alot of people I know started off running for a set time over distance. like one week run for 40 minutes, the next week 45 minutes, and so on.
here's a schedule for working up to a 15k ... http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51...Novice-Program.
since you are already at 5 miles, you can jump to week 6 and hit 8 miles at your target of the end of July. -

Thanks Prime. I'm actually not terribly far off from that routine anyway and I was planning on going for 6 this weekend. Good luck on your 5.

Kansas City Tough Mudders pre-registration is up. September 2013.
Considering it's an easy drive from Omaha, I'm definitely in on this one. Not making a call on Austin for a few more weeks.Proud member of the BATMAN club and the CAT SQUAD... it's not what you think.

Todays Stats from MyTracks
Total Distance: 3.59
Total Time: 33:40
Moving Time: 33:22
Max Speed: 10.01 MPH
Avg Speed 6.40 MPH
Average Moving Speed: 6.46
Elevation Gain 535 FT
I tried a new route this morning and I liked it a lot. More elevation gain than my standard loop.
Oh, and the KC Tough Mudder would interest me if it wasn't in September. Government Fiscal year ends in Sep and I'm on lock down obligating funds for the entire month. So, a Sep event is likely out of my grasp......

Some super cheap, yet super patriotic sandals I bought/wore on Saturday seemed to have jacked up my left foot. I was still able to run on it this morning, but it was an adjustment. Hoping it works itself out, but it hasn't made much progress (if any) since yesterday.

Ran this morning and it sucked. I was so tired from staying up playing softball and then MLB12 The Show. I only went 3 miles and it took every bit of my 30 minutes I set aside for my "recovery run" this morning. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow since I can sleep in and rest up.
As far as September goes, there really isn't a worse time of the year for me. I'm generally at work for 12-14 hours a day 6 days a week just so we can get all the contracts awarded we need to. That's why I love the October Mudder. I can get out that rage from work without killing someone. I'm sure everyone has to have periods of time at work where it's particulary busy so I try not to complain about it since the rest of the year I'm more or less open to do what i want.
Sucks about your foot. Hopefully it's nothing that will keep you from reaching your goals in the immediate future.

I think it'll be fine. It's a bit sore still but I took today completely off and will be getting up for an early run tomorrow to see how it goes. Planning on doing 4 miles, so we'll see.
