It was for a general detox and also kind of a self dicipline exercise. I didnt do any more than 3 days because it is the first time I have tried fasting and I have no next of kin to drive me to the hospital in the event of an accident or if something went wrong.
I recommend it to someone who doesnt have a medical condition, and only when they are not at work and generally have time to spend at home.

I was going to recommend against it for a number of reasons but I dont want to be a jerk about it. For self discipline, you could give up something like alcohol for a few weeks or something like that. For detox, you could vow to eat clean (only veggies, whole grain carbs like oats, and lean proteins like fish, turkey, chicken) for a couple weeks etc. That'll also ensure that you lose weight; it's pretty much a guarantee
Lots of different ways to achieve the goals you mentioned, but doing a 3 day fast isn't something I'd recommend. When you do something like fasting, even in as short as a 12 hour period, your blood sugar levels change, your brain is starved for essential nutrients, and your body begins to go into starvation mode. It'll start to use it's own muscles for energy (so you'll lose muscle mass; and considering that some important organs are comprised of muscle like the heart, you're possibly doing organ damage), and whatever you eat for your next few meals until your body is convinced it's no longer starving, everything will be stored as fat.
Basically, there are a lot of substitutes for achieving your goals, but they carry positive instead of negative health consequencesCurrently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Well I never drink or smoke anyway and I only eat one meal a day at around noon. The only thing I ever drink is water. I get lots of exercise. I was running out of options.
I had done some reading on fasting first and it seems that most of the major religions advocate fasting and when the body does go into fasting mode, the pituitary gland secretes more and more growth hormone which is used for cell regeneration. Once the contents of the stomach are digested completely first, the bodys fat reserves are then used to fuel the body. I didnt fast long enough for this to happen though. -

I'm going to fast myself this week.
Great way to lose some pounds and feel healthier.
Been quite some time since my last time though, so I might do some lighter fasting this time.
Last time I fasted was in 5th grade during an excursion.
I lost 30lb in 10 days back then (I did eat a few apples and one or two oranges during that time. Nothing more. Ironically, I drank a lot of soda though)
The first three days are always the hardest. I remember feeling like I was neither alive nor dead. It gets consistently better afterwards though. Up to the point that you feel like you can easily walk 15 miles without breaking the slightest sweat.PSN/XBL: BLINX1234 -

I'm not going to tell you guys what to do. Eating one big meal a day is terrible for you, insulin and metabolism wise. Fasting is also unhealthy and unnecessary. Eating high quality food at least 3 times a day and preferably 5, in appropriate portions will make you shed pounds like a mofo when coupled with something as simple as doing cardio for twenty minutes twice a day, and hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. You can easily lose 5-15 pounds a month doing that.
Past that, I'm not a health expert - but I certainly wouldn't get my eating advice from religion unless that's your particular belief and it makes you happy to abide by such.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

Except when sleeping, you're supposed to eat small meals every 2 hours.

I personally take the same route the Buddhist monks have taken for over 2550 years. I eat one meal a day of descent food and leave it at that. I drink water when necessary though.

Fasting is probably impossible for anyone who can't take the necessary days off work to do it. I'd recommend juicing instead, that way you still get nutrients.

Depending on what a persons job is, you could possibly do it over the weekend. If you make Friday morning breakfast your last meal, then start eating again at breakfast on Monday morning. If someone is used to eating 3 meals a day, a 3 day fast would really be an amazing endurance exercise.

Weird.
I found it easier to do while working or being preoccupied in some other mindboogling way.
I don't get to eat while being at work (I'd have to take a lunchbreak for that and I hate taking breaks) at all, so if I got to work 10-15 hours a day I could probably shave off at least one of my two daily meals.PSN/XBL: BLINX1234 -

So is this whole fasting thing being done to lose weight then? That's sort of what it's starting to sound like

I wouldnt recommend fasting to lose weight. Once the fast is over and the person starts eating again, they will put back on possibly more than they lost.
I did it mainly for self dicipline. The only way you can gain real self control is to face a craving and not give into what it wants. I was in no danger at all during the fast as my body had plenty of reserves to keep me going for a few days.
I have noticed a real difference since the fast finished last Sunday.
I would say fasting is also a great detox method too, just drink plenty spring/distilled water.
