If you're trying for new titles, yeah there's going to be a lot of people that want it, but you can get some really good deals on older titles.

You might have to throw a few discs in the system to get some points (or buy them) and it could be a couple weeks before you have a chance to redeem those points. (or just look for a game that is currently available.)

One thing I would like to see is to be able to default to the Trading Info tab.

I am a little confused.

1. Can I trade as much stuff as I want to bank points and then wait to use them for something in the future?

2. Would I be sending my items I trade to Goozex or the actual buyer?

3. Can I mail it the cheapest way possible like USPS Media Mail?

1. Yep. Save all the points you want.

2. You send to the 'buyer'.

3. Send First Class with DC. First Class typically runs $1.80 and DC is .60 (or .20 if you use Paypal). Goozexs offers up their own pre-paid shipping label but I think its $3.

Ok, IF let's say there's a new "redeem points" program. Let's see if it's worth it.

You traded 5 blu ray movies with 300 points each. So, 5 x 300 = 1500 points. However, if you can "buy" a brand new movie for 3000 points then it's not freaking worth it.

I'm saying it from the credit card experience. Amazon Visa, whatever, you have to spend a lot of money to get a stupid $ 25 Gift Certificate.

So, I'm not sure how the whole reward points system will work but I do know that it is a good place (Goozex) to unload tons of CRAP that you guys do not want and maybe get something good in return.

Well, I just want to say that I just opened my account. Just want to see what's the whole fuss about before I'll make my final opinion about GoozEx.

Thanks GizmoDVD. I am interested to see how the points drop on games after they have been out a while. I looked up a few and it seems pretty well tiered.

I've been using Goozex for a while now (couple of years or more thanks to CAG), and honestly like it. I have yet to do any movie trading, though it's peaked my interest alot (especially for HD DVDs like Time Cop that no one has, but it's cheap as hell). Welcome to HDD, Goozex.

Yeah, forgot to mention that music cd would be a huge + for the site. With "fair" value system points the site could be onto something REALLY good.

The "new" stuff is live:

Since they are a sponsor, we can't say anything bad.

Hi GizmoDVD,

Perhaps unlike other advertisers, we love to hear constructive feedback. If the mods are ok, then we're ok with members sharing their thoughts about Goozex.

Something needs to change because its becoming impossible to get any movies unless you goto Goozex exactly when new titles are added.

For example, I went on at 6am Tuesday and decided to add all new Blu-ray releases to my 'want it' list. I was in 4th-6th on each one. The chances of me ever getting those titles is slim to none. Considering some bigger titles, common titles, have only been traded a few times I might as well kiss those slots (titles) goodbye. Perhaps only allowing people to add 3 new 'Want It's' a day would help out because as it stands, with 80+ wants, I have not gotten a thing in 2 weeks. I've since removed all my 'Haves' because I already have well over 1000 points and no one is adding any new titles or I'm so far on the list I might as well just remove myself. I'm not much of a gamer (buy only a few games a year) so that wouldn't interest me on Goozex. It's a great idea, but there is simply not enough product.

Well, I joined and investigated if it would work for me or not. My conclusions are the same as many here. In my situation, there is no way that this service makes any sense at all.

My situation is this, I have dozens of DVD's I've been unloading as I upgrade to Blu. I have been selling on Half, E-Bay etc. Most of the discs I have been selling (Bonds, Star Treks, Batman films, etc.), average around $3 each on Half. After fees, shipping credit, and actual shipping costs, I end up clearing $3 per title. Then I also have a few $.75 titles too.

Looking at Goozex, basically everything I have to trade/sell are 100 point listings. Most of my $3 titles would probably trade there. Most of my $.75 don't have anyone on the waiting list, so who knows how long it would take to move them there. They are just as slow or slower than on Half.

What I am interested in receiving is Blu-rays. Most decent newer BD's are 550 points, and even the titles that have been around for $10 new, are 250points. Mid-tier (older but still $20) are 350 points.

So the problem is, if I want a recent release used BD on Goozex, I need to trade 6 DVD's (really 5.5, but you can't do that). I will pay $1.90 per title to ship them first clase (more if I want to use Paypal and get DC), so $11.40 in shipping. I will pay another $1 when I trade for the BD title, so $12.40. And then I give up $18 in sales on Half, meaning I essentially have $30.40 tied up in trading those six discs, and all I will get is one used Blu-ray for $30.40! $30.40 for 600 points ($.05 per point). Even if I could somehow just trade the $.75 Half titles that no one seems to want on Goozex, I still have $19.12 ($.032 per point) tied up in one used BD!

No Thanks!

This brings me to the next problem everyone else has mentioned. There are so few used BD's on the site, I would never get a recent release. The best I could hope for is some of the 250 point releases that you can get for $10 at Wal-Mart new. Even then, you have to trade 5 titles to get 2 of those BD's. So you end up having essentially $26.50 ($.053 per point) tied up in two used discs that you could have bought new for $20 + tax.

Again, no thanks!

And this finally brings me to Goozex's solution to lack of used inventory, being able to trade in for in stock new copies. Goozex has stuck a 1000 point price on any recent release, and 800 points for older releases. 1000 points is 10 DVD's, which after shipping, the $3 you loose out by not selling it on Half, etc., you end up paying $50 ($.05 per point) for Goozex's new disc, that can bought off Amazon new with free S&H for $25.

Absolutely no thanks!

Maybe it works better for games, but it is a HORRIBLE proposition for anyone looking to trade in DVD's for BD's. Until Goozex alters their point scales for DVD's and BD's (used and new ones they offer), I would stay far, far away. You are getting the shaft!

I suspect you are getting shafted even more if you try to trade games for Blu-rays. The last three games I should on half, I cleared $6, $9 and $12, rounding down to the nearest dollar, so $27 I cleared. Had I traded those three on Goozex, I would have received a whopping 450 points, spent $6 in shipping, and $1 for a trade. I would have had $34 invested in 450 points ($.075 per point).

Just anyway you look at it, it isn't a good deal and doesn't save you anything vs using a Half, Amazon Marketplace, E-Bay, etc. Even if you can unload nothing but pure, straight-up junk on Goozex, you will essentially be paying ($16.50/$10.50/$7.50). If your stuff is any better than junk, it costs you more.

The only thing that even makes remotely any sense, is trading a 350 point BD for a 350 point BD (which you can't do because there is no inventory). It would be a small amount in your favor. Let's say your BD sells for $15 on Half, and the one you want costs $15 on Half. You clear $13.24 selling yours and pay $17.98 to get the one you want. Cost of swapping, $4.74. Cost of making the same exchange on Goozex, $2.90. You save $1.84. Of course, since there are few used titles available, you end up being forced to by new, which costs you 2+ 350 point BD's (or $26.28) to buy a new title that is $19.99 on Amazon.

So it appears that anytime you cross formats, or anytime you go used to new, you will pay dearly.

You pretty much broke down why Goozex is tough to use, but especially because of lack of anyone trading. If people were actually listing stuff, new release Blu-rays, catalog Blu-rays, it might be worth the time. But as it stands, I have 84 items in my Want list and the chance of getting any are slim to none. 1050 points rotting away and 3 trade credits (which I paid for). I pulled all my inventory off and will try and use whatever remaining points I have.

Hell, I have many crap DVDs as well (Creepshow 2 and 3) and no one has those up for trade! I'm better off boxing up all my DVDs and sending them to Secondspin.

I really think they need to reinvent the entire point scheme. A point is a point for trading, but they aren't comparable across platforms. I think single used DVD titles should range from 100-1000, regular used games should range from 300-4000, and standard used BD's should range from 500-2000. Re-level the playing field for cross-platform trading and improved differentiation on the desireability of the trade.

Also, they have to do something about lack of inventory. They need to run a promo period where they wave the $1, provide bonus points (10% bonus) on completed trades, etc. Run that promo from now through Christmas to get inventory up and then they might have something.

Both great ideas. Lack of inventory really kills it for me. I know, kinda hypocritical with me pulling all my stuff off, but I'm not going to pay $2 to send a DVD/BD out and get nothing in return.
