OK Quick question guys.. i DO hope this thread isnt dead and you guys are still there :P
BUT .. having checked the blu ray by watching the first few minutes and it working perfectly i THOUGHT everything was hunky dory..
BUT.. having tried watching it the other night i realised all was not so.
the film keeps freezing as it gets near the end of the film.. and only forwarding a cvhapter makes it start working again.. which isnt great cos you have to miss a chunk of the film before it works again..
now.. is this a problem with my phillips BDP3000 player.. or is it something else..
i will attempt at some point to watch it on my ps3.. and if it works fine on that i guess it might be aproblem with the player.. no?
but.. what im thinking.. and what im trying to ask i guess.. is this..
is it because .. even though its region b.. its not actually a UK release.. and the blu ray players here wont play it properly.. even though its in a B region?
dumb question maybe.. i dunno.. -

Do try it on your PS3, and make sure you have up-to-date firmware in your players. Sometimes playability problems can be caused by old player firmware haviing some problems with something in disc content. If it fails in your PS3 too and both players have up-to-date firmware, it may be best to contact Amazon Germany about the problem as then the disc is probably somehow defective. They have customer support available in English also.
A German release can't have any regional differences that would make it fail in UK players. Region B covers the whole Europe. -

thanks for response!
i did play it all in my ps3 just finished watching it now
and it was doing the same thing.... UNTIL!
And this may be a well know n problem amonst you blu ray tecchie guys.. but not something i realised until just now!
ok.. so it was doing the same thing in my ps3... i took the disc out..
looked ayt it under the light... and realised i had made some rather greasy fingerprinst on it.
... so.. i cleaned i tup on my t-shirt... stuck it back in..
AND IT WORKED FINE!!
SEriously.. ive never noticed this about blu ray discs before.. but is this a common problem?
cos.. seriously.. ive scrathed to hell out of some of my CD's and they still work fine...
havent taken the best care of some of my xbox 360 game sand they dtill run fine!
but a few fingerprint marks on my appleseed blu ray? and it wouldnt work? till i cleaned it?
are blu rays rEALLY SO temperamental? is this normal? -

I have to admit I have never had any problem with any of my Blu-ray disks skipping. Must be a bad fingerprint grease for it to do that??

I am interested in this title as well so I am hoping you can help out with a couple of questions regarding it.
Does it come with the original Japanese audio track? If so, what format and most importantly is there any English subtitle when the Japanese audio track is selected? This is important to me since I don't understand Japanese but I don't really want to watch a Jap anime over a English dub either -

BDs usually have some protective coating on top of the data surface so they shouldn't be very sensitive to scratching but I don't have much knowledge about how sensitive they are to dirt on data surface. I never touch the data surface of my discs and they are usually bought as brand new so I haven't had personal experience of any dirt on data surface affecting playback.
I have had some discs that fail to load on my LG BD 370 for some unknown reason (they are not recognized as BDs and I get a "Disc Error"), but those same discs load fine on my PS3. Recent LG firmware update seemed to remove the problem with some of those affected discs but not all of them. Anyway, once the discs load OK I've never had any playability problems during playback with purchased BDs.
...
sschen, I think the German Appleseed disc doesn't have English subs at all, it just has the English dub as the only means of English language support. This was mentioned on the previous page of this thread. -

Well, getting back, ON topic, the BD of this is genuinely incredible. Better than any other transfer I've seen, and I even have regular DVD going out SDI to my Lumagen processor. By far the best pq I've seen. Was a blast to watch this as it should be watched.

Looks like a U.S BD release in May for Appleseed.

the "real" movie of this came out like in 1988.
Is this that version or the newer version?
I want the ORIGINAL version.
Is that one coming out? -

In 1988 there was an original video animation series based on the same manga but this Appleseed is the original anime movie from 2004.

thanks for that info.
I was under the impression that the earlier work was also a film.
(as you can see, this again shows that the Japanese stuff is not my specialty) -

Haven't posted on this for a while...
Rebuilt my HTPC, and now have region-free blu-ray playback, and I have to tell you:
This is one of the BEST looking blu-rays I have ever purchased. Off the hiz-ook. I mean I was *literally* dropping my jaw on some of the scenes in this film. The colors are outstanding, and although I didn't look at the bitrate, it has to be off the charts. Simply put, the best looking blu-ray. Period.
Glad I don't have to wait for them to finally release it in the U.S. This will be all I need for a while. And P.S. - Appleseed rocks over Ex Machina, even though John Woo produced it. Hint? Bring back the original voice-over cast, dummies!!
