Default Japan: Macross F 1: 45% of sold units were Blu-Ray

Just saw it on AV Watch, and I thought it might be interesting to have some real numbers from Japan (although anime fans is quite far from a representative user base for the japanese :

Bandai Visual announced that 100.000 Units of the first volume of "Macross F", of which 45.000 were Blu-Ray. This sets a new sale record of BD units for the company.

This also marks the first simultaneous BD and DVD release of an anime series in Japan. The disc contains the first episode*, and is priced at 5,040 JPY for the Blu-Ray disc (~46 USD) and 3,990 JPY for the DVD (~37 USD).

The following volumes each will contain 3 episodes and be priced at 7,350 JPY and 6,300 JPY, respectively (~68 USD and ~58 USD).
Full text: AV Watch (Warning: Japanese only).

Yeah, it quite expensive. Though one should notice that the first volume has a total runtime of 82 minutes as it contains the first episode in three different versions.

Sales of Japanese BD players/recorders have really taken off. But 45K sales out of 100K for BD is a very impressive number and shows that Blu-Ray is really taking off in Japan.
