HD DVD is not dominating, they haven't dominated since 2006, that's why HD DVD never won a week in 2007, and why Toshiba likely gave up...

I question the title of thread. HD-DVD never dominated anything. They've been barely holding on for the past year and now that the titles are super cheap people are racing to snatch them up before they are gone.

Of course they are, they are all bargain priced firesale discs now. How you haven't been banned yet is a mystery. All you do is start troll posts about a dead format.

If a dead format can fly off the shelves like this, then what it shows is that it was not "confusion" over HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray that was holding back HDM adoption, it was price and price alone. Hopefully Blu studios and manufacturers will realize this and make a more concerted effort to get Blu-Ray prices down over the next year... the market seems more than ready to buy HDM in volume if suupliers get a little more serious about reaching mainstream pricing levels.

If you are interested in purchasing the flagship model HD-A35, you will have to scour the market and you are likely to see a steep price
Okay, fine. Do this: http://castle.pricewatch.com/s/searc...=System+Memory You'll see that a discontinued product is expensive because they don't make it anymore and nobody wants it. So the 1 or 2 people that do want it will have to pay a lot of money for it. I sure as hell am not going to pay $80 for a stick of 512mb RDRAM, screw that. Just as I'm not going to pay $300 for an over glorified Upconverting DVD player.

Remember, these were products that we no longer replenished beginning with the middle of February. These have been on clearance and once they're gone, they're gone which explains their shortage of stock. Nothing more.

That's exactly my point. This is a DEAD format, and the only reason people are rushing out to buy it is because it's so cheap. Therefore: there is a pent-up demand for HDM at cheaper levels than what we are currently seeing Blu-Ray sell at, since people are even willing to spend money on a DEAD format just because it's less expensive. This should tell the Blu-Ray camp that their main obstacle to adoption is currently price and nothing else.

That implys that these discounts have brought out new HD-DVD customers. I think everyone can agree that the majority of these titles are purchased by exisiting owners who are looking to pad their HD library at a discount before the stock dries up.

This has nothing to do with adoption.

Yes, this is why player sales are probably the more important metric to use in judging how many new buyers are coming along. While a number of those sales are probably "backups" for existing HD DVD owners, it would still give a better idea of how many new buyers there are. A $60 HD DVD player is a pretty good deal for someone looking to jump into HDM and pick up about 20 movies or so pretty cheap at the moment.

fox2jk,
Dude your format is dead and gone the war is over. Let it go you can't dominate if your not in the game anymore. It's over blu-Ray has already won. Time to go buy a BD player, enjoy the HD DVDs you have or just go back to SD.

Have you seen the latest numbers for 3/16

wkly
BD:78% HD:22%.

YTD
BD:75% HD:24%.

Hardly what I would call domination by HD.

Dominating the failed product catagory? I don't get it.
