Default I Am Legend BD #1 on Amazon

here

It's not even technically on sale, either. Is this a first?

You know Cleeve, I think you are right. If I remember correctly, The 1st HDM to get to #1 was a HP HD DVD the last week of Dec or first week of Jan. This being a Pre order and being #1 is a first I believe. This might be the movie to beat the 300 sales mark. The HD DVD version Pre order is doing well also ranking in at #21. This title is going to sell a monster load between the two formats.

This is an example of how well the discs can perform when prices go down. Hopefully some of the studios will see this and realize that if you sell BDs at 18.95 as opposed to 29.95, it's going to increase the size of the BD market. If consumers see that a Blu-ray doesn't cost much more than the DVD, it gives them incentive to invest in the Blu-ray player. I think all the studios really need to lower the prices of their standard "barebones" releases. If they're going all out on the extras with a double disc or a boxset (like the Close Encounters, or Blade Runner sets) then charge more, but 29.95 for discs with a "standard" set of features or no features at all is too much.

Thanks I just forgot to pre-order this one. By the way the Blu-ray version is cheaper than the DVD version on Amazon.

Great deal.

Really? I didn't realize that. I preordered it yesterday (And Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD) along with Independence Day and I, Robot (which is supposed to be a fantastic disc) both on Blu-ray. The whole pop was about $120. Not bad compared to some of my earlier purchases.

Lost Season 3 went to number 1 when it was a gold box deal but that was like a one-day thing and it was because it was an amazing sale.

It's not on sale...but it was originally priced at $23.95.

We can't be quite sure if its permanent.

Cleeve is right. This is the first HDM title that went #1 during pre-orders. Of course, there were a couple of titles that went #1 due to sales but that was after their initial releases.

I saw it in theaters. It was decent but personally I don't think I can see it again that many times so holding off for now.

This will be the title where the separation strategy from WB really demonstrates a wide margin. At this price the BD could produce a 5:1 split with the HD DVD.

I usually pick up new releases from my local BB but the price difference is way to great for I Am Legen, 18 buck thru Amazon and 27 thru BB...i'll get it a few days later but the extra bucks save is nice.

Wait and see what the sales data from all stores is. Take me for instance, I was going to buy I Am Legend from Wal*Mart, but seeing the price on Amazon, I can wait the extra week for shipment. So even though I added a sale to Amazon due to the price, I also took a sale _away_ from Wal*Mart.

I'm sure Amazon is also aware that being < $25, most of us will pick up a second title to save on shipping. Made me buy I, Robot where I wouldn't have otherwise. In other words, I think we probably won't see this kind of deal elsewhere on other titles, as if Wal*Mart sold I Am Legend for $20, I'd just buy that movie, and not tack on an extra.
