"30 Days of Night" was the top Blu-ray Disc seller for the week, outselling the HD DVD edition of "Beowulf," one of the final big titles to be released on the doomed next-generation format."

Well, seems HD-DVD finally had its last few hours in the sun last week. Time for it to just quietly go away finally.

I predicted last week it would beat beowulf. only die hard hd dvd fans that were making something out of nothing with the american gangster sales were saying otherwise.

What else can be said? Definitely a tier 0 title that deserved to send the format out with a bang. |

That was unexpected, actually. I hated the film myself, but from the talk on this forum I thought it would have opened more wallets than it did.
Maybe people expect that Paramount have it already pressed and waiting on BD..??

I haven't seen 30 days of night, but Beowulf certainly didn't deserve a #1 placing. It was mediocrity defined.

I agree. I almost fell asleep several times while trying to watch this movie in the theater.

Maybe general HD-DVD supporters like more serious films like Planet Earth and American Gangsters versus computer animated stuff.
I guess we won't have to hear that a dead format has a #1 title this week. We will just hear that it made it somewhere in the top 10. "Booya... Beowulf made it into the top 10, so cool for a dead format" I wonder if it would make it on the front page of HDD? ![]()

What number in the charts did "Beowulf" go too?
Was it still in the top 10? Still not bad for a dead format ![]()

Looks like you need to learn the difference between "firesale" and "good sales". Besides, it's been all of two weeks since Toshiba's announcement, and only one week since Paramount's "announcement" (if one could call only dropping titles instead of actually speaking to the press and their consumers an announcement).

I didn't like Beowulf at all. I'm thinking about canceling my UK blu ray import of Beowulf after finally renting it on dvd and upconverting it like most Toshiba fans.

your going to the store to buy an HD-DVD title while they're still on the shelf
Do you shell out 30 bucks for beowulf? of halfthat on a firesale title?

in other news Beowulf top both rental and dvd charts while 30 days of nights only came in number 4........
People don't talk shit on beowulf ....HD DVD is finishing up and with paramount and universal pulling titles people have given up.... If none of the events had transpire and universal and paramount were still exlusive and toshiba was still commited Beowulf would have topped and broken some high def records....but that isn't the case |
