Default $50 xbox HDDVD add-on causing a spike in HDDVD sales?

Anyone else think that xbox HDDVD add-on might cause a small spike in HDDVD sales? I'm pretty sure half of those sales will probably be purchase by existing HDDVD owners, but there is still enough new HDDVD owners to cause a small spike in HDDVD movie sales.

I'm sure spikes in sale don't matter as much as the hurt in M$'s wallets...

I doubt it hurts Microsoft's wallets. Microsoft has Xbox Live memberships and money being spent on the Marketplace everyday to make up for it.

I suspect the only spike we'll see is an increase in copies of King Kong for cheap on eBay

Seriously though, I'm guessing a lot of current owners are buying this as a sort of backup device. New owners might pick this up figuring they'll get Kong plus 5 mailaway movies for $50 which makes this a great deal, dead format or not.

Of course it hurts Microsoft's wallets. It doesn't matter if they have other things to 'make up for it'. Those things that are 'making up for it' would be making money on their own rather than trying to fill in the money hole that microsoft created with the add on.

Just like all the bogo deals that the blu camp ran in 2007 to bouy up their sales ratios.

Not really. The expectation is that there will still be stock after a BOGO promotion. Not so with a closing-down sale.

HD DVD's coffin already has enough nails, so why not add a spike?

hd dvd

Welcome me as I am now an HD DVD newcomer.

I just bought 3 Xbox 360 HD DVD Players yesterday at FYE in celebration of HD DVD's death.

The HD DVD Player's cost is $20 each after rebate. Plus, each package comes with a $20 remote and King Kong.

There is also the 5 Free Movies Rebate that I am eligible for.
Since I bought 3 Players, I will now get 15 Free HD DVDs from this offer.

Now in total, 18 HD DVDs purchased* in a single day. Pretty good as a newcomer, eh?

* or will be receiving due to rebate processing time

hd dvd

By the way, how will the spike last long since WalMart, NetFlix, and other retailers/rental houses have already decided to not sell/support HD DVD?

These spikes are at a great price. I picked up three the other day.

In case the first two break, or they suddenly become sought-after items?
