That interview is starting to show up on a couple sites. The interesting part was the 4-5 mil bd players from NA. Thats about 80k a week average. This sounds low if the ps3 is included, and high if the ps3 is not included. |

I would say 80k per week is about right if you include PS3 sales. PS3 is still only selling around 60k per week at the moment and standalones are about 20k per week (if I remember correctly)
I think the estimates only include standalones though. Come Christmas BR players will be selling like hotcakes. I doubt they will reach 4 million by the end of the year though. That's more than a 10 fold increase. Unless the price really comes down a lot I can see around 1.5-2 million BR players in USA. Another 1 million in the rest of the world.

PS3 also sold in fall 2006 (Nov Dec 2006) and 2008 (Jan Feb 2008) . 5 M PS3s in NA during 2007 might be about right.
BD standalones were probably well less than 400,000 units in 2007. |

General rule of thumb for DVD player sales has been the last 4 months equal the first 8 months of sales in any given year.
With no format war, lower prices and HDTV sales expect BD hardware to do much better than that this fall. When we get Jan NPD hardware sales numbers for PS3 and BD set tops, as a minimum you can multiply that by a factor of 16 or more for annual sales. |
