Default massive HD-DVD showing on Amazon

hey I was expecting, Amazon sales on HD-DVD to taper off in the wake of Toshiba's announcement, however it seems the opposite has happened

three days ago, there were 13 titles in Amazons top 100 HDM releases, now (morning of the 21st) it has more than trippled at 41 titles

I'm making an assumption that
a.) HD-DVD owners are making a rush to buy titles before they disapear completely from stores inventory

b.) in the wake of Wal-Mart's announcements the average consumer sees Amazon as one of the only placeas to FIND HD-DVD disks

I gess it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to call them collector's items is it?

It was always on the cards there would be a final surge of HD DVD purchases in the dying moments.

I expect the sure of PS3, BD Standalones and BD movies to be longer and harder...

I am interested in seeing next months NPD figures for PS3 systems sold... Looking here, there are hundreds of people that figured now is PS3 time...

Despite what these analysts say, I haven't seen this said surge in PS3 sales in my store so far. Only had one customer who came in for the sole purpose of buying a PS3 for BD so far.

It's because they're having a 50% off sale right now.

@ Chris: How many PS3s have you sold since Tuesday? An analyst named Michael Pachter expects a 10% growth in PS3 sales because of the win, so you're going to have to talk to at least 10 people before you find one who was swayed by the Feb. 18th announcement from HD DVD.

Isn't this the third week of that sale? That doesn't explain it because the sale is what put 13 discs in the Top 100, that the OP referred to. After the announcement it jumped to 41. The sale was going on the whole time.

It would be so funny if beat in disc sales this week. Oh the irony!
Don't think it's going to happen though.

Growth as a Blu-ray player, not a gaming machine. The POS3 will always be in last place when it comes to that.

The largest gaming company in the world and the most accurate analysts in the world all disagree with you. But hey, why use facts when you can make shit up?

So you've played each console's upcoming lineup for the next year? Amazing!

Perhaps Toshiba should have followed those local furniture stores in coming up with their ad campaigns....

"Going out of Business Sale!!!"

Seems to have been the most sucessful so far.

I'm still amazed how the same store can be going out of business for 10 years. Perhaps the HD-DVD FUDders are onto something...

I was thinking that Toshiba should make a TV commercial along the lines of this one:
