The latest Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales data show the top-selling Blu-ray Disc title for the week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's "Across the Universe," sold more than three times as many copies the week ending Feb. 10 as the top HD DVD seller, Universal Studios Home Entertainment's "Elizabeth: The Golden Age." Blu-ray Disc titles also accounted for 81% of all high-def disc sales for the week, with HD DVD at just 19%.

Same person that's saying that the PS3 have no games in console smackdown is saying that no one use use the PS3 to watch movies in Hi-def. If the red fanboy is right then 360's day will be numbered but if the 360 fanboy is right then Blu-ray is a huge success. So which is it boys?

Because they're missing potential profits in the emerging HDM game and pissing off an exponentially larger customer base than the HDVD format that EVEN TOSHIBA is considering abandoning.

Even though HDM is small, presumingly both want to maximise revenue and thought HD-DVD would be the vehicle to achieve it.

Or perhaps when this is wrapped up we will decide there were no losers, I don't know.
I could live with that

Because their sales for HD DVD suck? You know, not making money, as in it hurts their profits etc etc. You do realize these companies exist to generate profit?

According to most people on these sites, Paramount is getting a nice paycheck from HD DVD to release movies exclusively to the tune of $150 million. They would gladly stay exclusive until the end of this contract, as there is ZERO chance of them making that much in Blu-Ray sales alone. Zero! So their profits are fine.

Universal has been in the HD DVD camp from the beginning, so they should be the last to go. If the writing was on the wall, they must have known that it was a matter of time until Paramount left, so here is a short-term loss in order to look better in the public eye. Goodwill can be worth a nice amount to a company.

I'm pretty sure incentives + maximised revenues is the ideal combination for Paramount here.

Also theres no way either will actually gain more goodwill from HD-DVD only owners / companies than they lose from BD supporters.
Surely its a case of minimising loss from diminishing goodwill (which is why a theorised push to get *Toshiba* to call it quits quickly is ideal)?

But but... HD DVD is gaining momentum!! The Super Bowl ad! Disc sales don't matter!!
