Default HD DVD Players Sell Out at Amazon, Down to $112 in Chicago

Apologies if this has been reported already - I searched but could only find a thread about players selling out on Wal-Mart online.

Quote:
The decision by Toshiba to sell its HD DVD inventory at deep discounts has led to its logical conclusion, as the company’s entry-level HD-A3 player sold out at Wal*Mart’s online store Thursday, Punchjump.com reported.

The player has a listed price of $139.28 on Amazon.com. The site also recently began selling HD DVD movies at deep discounts as well. The players are also reportedly sold out at several locations in Southern California, Punchjump said.

Meanwhile, according to the Web site TGDaily.com, Toshiba’s HD-A20 player has dropped in price all the way to $112 at one Circuit City in Chicago.

Well, only if half of the threads in Smackdown should be in the Sales thread also.

Selling out is only significant if the company orders more stock when they run out!

This thread is a miscomprehension of the article. It is Walmart that has sold out of HD DVD players, not Amazon.

Actually, the mistake was in the title of the Dealerscope article itself, not my post. It is indeed Wal-Mart that is sold out, not Amazon.

Wal-mart is also sold out of the XBox 360 HD Drive according to Punch Jump. Interesting - especially if they order more.

we have no idea how many wal-mart had left. it'll be intresting if they re-stock. CC having 112 dollar hd dvd players isn't good, if $100 was clerance, then $112 can't be much above clearance.

Toshiba has a new model ready for release
July 2008, now that most of the old ones
are sold.

I guess some of the "insiders" have said that there is more to come this week.

I would doubt that Circuit City or Wal-mart dropping HD-DVD is far off base as a guess.

If this is true, it would explain a lot, especially the the low prices lately. And it would mean that the execs of Toshiba are (pardon my french) backstabbing bastards.
Let the unaware HD DVD buyers as long as possible in a false hope so they may help clear the inventory as far as possible before dropping the bomb (and resulting the following HD DVD sales to be virtually nil).

But first wait and see whether this is true or just some rumors.

Rumors are just truths waiting to be born.

I wonder how many players Toshiba has left to get rid of.
