Default HD players sales declining across the board

I read somewhere that across the board HD hardware (HD-DVD and Bu-ray players) sales on both formats have actually declined compared to several
months ago. If memory serves me well this NEVER happened
when standard dvd was introduced. As much as you guys want to believe or wish HD it not catching on like the media, manufacturers and studios would like you to believe. The upscaling dvd players are still outselling them big time.

January is slow. December also have a lot more sales due to the holiday season. Retail sales are really slow this January because of fears of recession.

Yes, both Blu-ray and HDDVD sales continue going down week after week.

Dude, read or watch the news. Retail sales are really slow in January, mostly due to the fears of recession. I don't need to provide a link.

From the rules:

As of NOW, we are going to start cracking down on "opinion-based" threads that appear to designed expressly to start a fight. This has become a serious problem of late, and the moderation staff is going to be taking action.

For the first few days, as we adjust, there will be warnings sent out, and then infractions as necessary, so let me explain what constitutes an "Opinion thread."

An "opinion-based thread" is a thread that contains no actual facts or links, and is intended to do nothing but start a fight. These threads are more lovingly known as 'Flamebait'.

To be clear, we do not have a problem with people stating an opinion, but it must be supported by facts

DVD player sales have fallen after Christmas season every year since they were first introduced.

Exactly. It's also wrong. For instance, in here's the Dec 1998-Feb 1999 player sales for DVD:

Dec - 233,505
Jan - 125,536
Feb - 109,399

Actually while SA players decline BD players continue to build up steam. Argue away but what are most people recommending as far as Blu-ray players? That dumb game system that has no impact on this war... Sony could have rushed to market with a PS3 with a DVD drive to compete with the 360 but they did not. 360 had a nice run but by all accounts PlayStation will pass them soon. (Both are so far behind the Wii they think they are first... imagine if Nintendo could actually meet the demand.)

Pretty much any intelligent article admits that the best buy, now, to get into Blu-ray is the PS3. Current tracking of HW sales does not give a clear picture of what's happening.

Look at the strong position Blu-ray is in. They have not had a sale for a while but continue to outsell HD-DVD. None of the CE's have felt the need to stoop to Toshiba's level and none have been all that hurt by it.

You can argue that that means that consumers are taking it in the shorts but let's ask those who bought into HD-DVD, even at the low end, if it was worth it.

It was rediculous to have two competing formats. Toshiba stood alone and wanted to protect their dynasty.

CE's - don't matter
Gamers - don't matter
Studios - we'll buy what we can
Profits - don't matter

At CES even their good buddy M$ stepped aside and left them in wind. (Apple has done the same to Blu-ray so turn about it fair play. I just can't believe what they are calling HD downloads... hardly. Aspect ratio, blah resolution, blah etc. You can't call yourself a fan of film and support what Apple is up to... rant over.)

It's all semantics now. HD-DVD is irrelevent.

As stated by myself and a few others.

If these are the rules to which this forum section is run, then close 99.8% of the threads because they provide no facts, are of all opinion based and all are gloating flamebait in one form or the other.

Now back to our niche market place disc smackdown!!

To highlight again "To be clear, we do not have a problem with people stating an opinion, but it must be supported by facts".

You'll find that all threads that are as you state, and are not based on any known facts, do get closed down.

Several months ago it was the Christmas shopping season. If you want a real view on where the HD market is going you have to compare sales from 12 months ago!
