Yeah, so I've been told by a CC Manager on Saturday. I really like the guy, he's really cool, everytime he sees me, we chat about thigns. But on Saturday, he did it. He finally came up to me and my friends to talk about the formats. "Hey, Blu-ray is dying you know. Yeah, right now, some studios are supporting both format but most are supporting Blu-Ray and Warner is on the fence, and they're looking like they will go Blu soon so it's pretty pointless." We're standing there acting as stupid as possible and making it seem like he's the man and giving us the most info we could. Then he starts by saying "Yeah, Blu-ray is better anyway. It's a new technology, new format and it's beyond High-Def! HD DVD is the SAME as regular DVD's but they just hold more space on them. A regular DVD holds 5gb of space and Blu-Ray holds 50gb, 5 times more than regular dvd.....THE CONSUMERS WERE NOT AWARE BEFORE, BUT NOW THEY ARE SO THEY'RE BUYING BLU-RAY"
Ok, by that moment, I couldn't handle it and like I said, I like the guy, so I quietly walked away and let him keep talking to my friends. 1st. HD DVD is NOT the same as regular DVD!!! ![]() 2nd. 5 x 5 is not 50! ![]() 3rd. Yes, the consumers are aware and they know the truth. Those who aren't, misinformations like his isn't really helping either. I wonder if they are telling the truth for blu-ray players also that they can't do 2.0. (Of course that doesn't matter right?? )See things like this is what makes me want HD DVD to win because I really would LOVE to see what they say then. I'm sure everything he said, he'd just change blu-ray to HD DVD instead. ![]() |

Actually strictly speaking HD-DVD uses the same optical Disc as DVD. It just uses a Blue laser rather then a Red Laser to read the disc, as a Blue wave length laser can write and read far more data off the same size disc.
This is actually considered to be a benefit to HD-DVD as it meant the existing DVD replicators and discs could be used to lower production costs. But I agree, the rest he said was complete BS, I just wanted to point out that technically HD-DVD is the same disc as a DVD. BD uses a disc that is some what similar to a DVD but has some significant differences (the reason why it can store more data). Just FYI, not looking for an argument or saying one is better then the other. |

there's just as many naive people spouting misinformation about blu-ray as there are spouting misinformation about hd dvd.
People are stupid. That's life.

But still, all the misinfos about things don't really help at all. |

It's like when people tell me that iPods have great audio quality... they say it's my Shure earbuds that suck...
People simply don't get tech and shouldn't try to explain it if they're not sure. Unfortunately, they know just enough to talk, but not enough to say it accurately.
