Default NPD survey: HD DVD purchase intention continues to beat BD

BD purchase intention increases but still lower than HD DVD. HD DVD purchase intention 'flattening'.

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6530271.html

Quote:
Overall, there is weak demand for both BD and HD DVD set-tops. In the first two weeks of January, NPD’s surveys show that on average, less than 10% of respondents say they plan to buy a stand-alone player in either format in the next six months. NPD’s sample includes about 6,000 regular DVD buyers, starting at age 13.

However, NPD’s surveys do show diverging intent for BD and HD DVD. Late last year, the percentage of consumers intending to buy a BD player topped at around 6.3%, but that had risen to 8.1% of consumers by Jan. 16.

How about looking at actual purchases? Do we elect officials based on exit polls or actual results?

Yes, hidef is a niche that only geeks and HT enthusiast cares about.

10% sounds about right, for those who are interested in buying a hidef player.

You forgot the title of that article:

NPD: Intent-to-buy Blu-ray grows
But overall consumer demand remains weak for both formats

Oh, this is the first paragraph:

Quote:
Consumers are expressing more desire to purchase Blu-ray Disc players following Warner Bros. Entertainment’s swing to back that format exclusively, according to the NPD Group. Meanwhile, the research firm reports that interest in HD DVD players is flattening.
Last paragraph is kinda interesting:

Quote:
Additionally, according to Warner Home Video worldwide president Ron Sanders, studio consumer sampling shows that 40% more of its respondents would consider buying a BD player if Warner decided to exclusively back the format. Conducted while Warner was still format-neutral, the survey did influence the studio’s decision to solely back BD.
You sir, just pwned yourself

"Format Neutral" is a fallacy and a sham.
Anyone who says they're format neutral is a bullshitter.

From the article:

HD DVD intent to buy continues to top BD, which has been the case since NPD started reporting high-def hardware results in October.

So even after the Warner announcement, more people are interested in buying HDDVD over Blu-ray.

Stop posting selected quotes... post the whole paragraph

And HDDVD marketshare continues to grow even though Blu-ray is outselling HDDVD.

Doesn't matter, HDDVD is beating Blu-ray.

HD DVD intent to buy continues to top BD, which has been the case since NPD started reporting high-def hardware results in October.

And yet more bluray is actually being PURCHASED, in addition to the intent to buy increasing.

*edit*

Deadmeat, how is HDDVD beating Blu-ray? In player sales? Software sales? Revenue? Profit?

Haha..

Marketshare for HDDVD continues to grow since 1/20, while Blu-ray marketshare continues to go down.

We ARE reading the same article right? Doesn't say anywhere that HD DVD is "growing" or anything similar to it... maybe you can post a selective quote again that shows this so we can properly understand where you're coming from?
