Ouch for HD DVD. They even had an Amazon *AND* a Best Buy BOGO, along with week two of the player price slash.

If there was any indication HD DVD is a dead format, 2008 movie sales have been it.

Everyone with a clue knew that blu ray would surge after the WB announcment. Now things will get back to where they were before and HD DVD will still be here to the dismay of blubots everywhere.........

Correct but the numbers show it is going back towards the 2 to 1 ratio. I never said they are winning in software sales just that it is going back to where it was.

Yeah, it sure looks like it would have been in the 80:20 range (or worse) without the BOGO sales. Things should get a little better for HD DVD when they release American Gangster (they may even get down to the 65:35 range) but it is going to be a blood bath when I Am Legend is released on Blu-Ray day and date with the DVD version and things will get even worse in May when Warner drops HD DVD for good.

So, how is this defined? Losing less?

I mean really. 2:1, 3:1. 4:1 (all of which we have seen) is losing by all accounts.

A 2:1 ratio didn't seem to keep WB behind HD DVD now did it? Oh, and don't forget WB leaves in June.

Expect any subtle increase (if there is any, e.g. "back to where it was") to effectively be negated come spring.

What excuse will there be then?

You could be right but remember HD DVD only had two studios for quite a while in the begining and they haven't died yet and other things could change that would alter what could be..........

Amazon had a bogo? That's news to me...

Oh maybe because they didn't have one, get your facts straight

Hmmm ... if it keeps climbing upward next week, this could get interesting.

By the way, when was there an HD-DVD Amazon BOGO last week? I saw the 14-title Best Buy BOGO, but didn't hear of one at Amazon.

Yeah, other things could change, like Uni and Para could go blu and really end this thing.

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda works both ways, and appears to be this weeks HD DVD mantra.

Shoulda advertised more/better

MS coulda put HD DVD into the xbox 360

etc.

All of these things are meaningless in view of the FACTS.

actually, even with a bogo and 50% off players, hd dvd sold approximately 5000 less this week than the 2nd week of january (and that's after the warner announcement).

Top 5 HD DVD
Transformers 100
The Bourne Supremacy 95,20
Shooter 61.51
The Bourne Identity 59.81
Serenity 52.95

All those titles were part of the BOGO at Best Buy. It's not a trend for HD DVD. We are not going back to 3:1.

HD DVD never had two studios in the beginning Warner and Paramount were originally HD DVD exclusive (along with Universal) and then Paramount and Warner went neutral. Warner is huge for HD DVD. Just to give you an idea of how huge, Warner has released 126 titles on HD DVD to date and Paramount has released 41...

The older two Bourne movies but not the 3rd? Weird purchasing habits, no? Transformers at the top is no surprise, I think.
