Rumoured Blu-ray price drop in September Sony tipped to reduce prices of Blu-Ray players by US$100 in September, and other manufacturers will follow suit. By Dylan Bushell-Embling (Computerworld) It is rumoured that Sony plans to drop the price of its standalone Blu-Ray players by US$100 next month. According to HDGuru, an anonymous source has told Consumer Electronics Daily that Sony will reduce prices of its entry-level BDP-S350 player from US$399 to $299, and the BDP-S550 from $499 to $399, on September 28. The source also claims that other Blu-Ray manufacturers will follow suit to retain a competitive edge, with the brands owned by electronics giant, Funai, including Philips/Magnavox and Insignia, to drop the price of their players to US$249 in September. http://www.smarthouse.com.au/HD/Blu_ray/U6J9P5N3 HD / BLU-RAY Sony Starts Blu-Ray War By Cutting Prices By $100 By Branko Miletic | Monday | 25/08/2008 According to a number of reports, Sony reportedly intends to cut the price of some of its top Blu-ray players at the end of September by $100. At the time of printing, Sony did not confirm nor deny the report. This price cut for its top player, the BDP-S350. (i.e. non-PlayStation 3) Blu-ray players by $100 in September, was attributed to an anonymous source cited on the HD Guru Web site. And the same time a few sources have claimed that a number of budget players manufactured by Funai and sold under the Philips, Magnavox, Sylvania, and Insignia brands will drop to as low as $249 per unit. In other words, the Sony BDP-S350 would drop from $US400 to $US300, and a new, as yet unreleased model, the BDP-S550, would be sold at around $US400, instead of the $US500 price that was previously announced, according to a report in Crave. Locally, Blu-ray price tags under $300 means it wont be long until we see $199 sales deals on Blu-ray players at the end of this year from some appliance retailers --all this, just in time for Christmas.

Damn! I just plunked down $315 for a Sony 350! Oh, well. That's close enough that I'm not going to sweat it, and good for all those who will get to take advantage of the new pricing (if the rumor turns out to be true).

Yes, this already has about 5 threads, but consider this:
The chances of Blu-ray hitting the $1 Billion mark this year just got better.

Swanni also made the prediction this morning. http://www.tvpredictions.com/blu082608.htm He talks about software price cuts as well. I do agree there is some good prices out there if you look around on the net, but the B&M stores don't seem to be budging. Even the remainder HD DVD stock is still up there.
