Default What happened to the Funai?

It's already spring and I haven't heard any news, plus it isn't on the Blu-ray website anymore. Did it get cancelled? The Funai is the only player in my budget(the Samsung BDP-1500 will be $400, and stupid Sony forced Phillips to up the price as well). If I receive some gift cards and the card that Best Buy is sending out, I might be able to afford a PS3, but I'm not even sure about that.

It's still on their corporate website.

If you zoom in, it's branded as a Sylvania (NB500), I suppose, which means you'll be getting it cheap at Wal-Mart.

No idea about the Funai.

But

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...4053&langId=-1

That took me two minutes to find on google, throw in a $24 two year warrenty and you would be set.

Heck I saw a promotion two weekends ago for the LG dual player for just $299. There are all sorts of deals out there on blu-ray players, you just need to ignore the "blu-ray players cost $400" programming.

I have around $120 in christmas checks from last year which I've put in my savings account, and if I receive another $100 or so, plus the $50 BB gift card for my birthday at the end of May, I should be able to buy a 40gb PS3.

Cool, can it bitstream, having trouble figuring it out. What profile, it's not 2 is it?

I am not up on which models of BD players (I guess because there are so many right now) have bitstream capability, I want my DTS MA. Profile 2.0 I suppose I could live without for a while, but not bitstream.

It's a 1.0 that's capable of BD-Java, I'm not sure about the other things though.

Good place to start I guess. I still want to wait a while before I get a BD player. Hopefully by this holiday season I will find one that has the features I want and a price I find reasonable. One can always hope....

Well, if the Funai is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-NB500...7049498&sr=8-2

Then apparently so much for an MSRP $299 player for this summer.

I think the Funai player is sitting in a warehouse next to the chinese HD DVD players. They are both waiting to "flood the market".

That MSRP makes no sense. The Sony S350 will come out for the same price.

That looks like it from what I remember from CES.

MSRP now us a bit deceptive until it shows up at B&M locations.

Expect it to sell $50 less than any Sony or Samsung or major brand name, and they can be had now for $349. So think at least $299 by the summer or $249 or less by the time the fall sales season comes around.

The brand premium for Sony would be a least $25-$50 over that of Sylvania in actual sustained retail pricing.

I generally prefer work with B&M pricing since that's what the vast, vast majority of people pay. $399 is the entry point right now for BD at B&Ms, with online pricing in the mid $300s.

Well I hope you're right
I wouldn't buy one of these, but they should help drive adoption at those prices so that's a good thing. Personally I don't see Sylvania offering firmware updates in 2 years to handle Fox's latest round of BD+ updates...

And this is why everyone will buy a PS3 instead, including myself. I would love a standalone, but these prices are ridiculous.
