Default Philips raises launch price of BDP7200 BD player

Same spec, just higher price. Well congratulations. We did it!

Philips lifts price on upcoming Blu-ray player

San Francisco (CA) - Philips announced this week that its pending BDP7200 player will no longer earn the designation of the cheapest player on the market, as it is raising the launch price from around $350 to $400.

The device was set to have the lowest MSRP for a Blu-ray player when it was announced in January, before the effective end of HD DVD. However, it will now be the same price as Sony's BDP-S300 and lower-end Playstation 3.

The Philips player was announced at the beginning of this year. Philips "thought that would be the cost at the time," said a Philips spokesperson in a TVPredictions.com story. She did not give a reason for the price hike, but defiantly argued that it had nothing to do with HD DVD's demise.

On the retail front, Blu-ray player pricing has steadily increased since the HD DVD fallout, likely because of the lessened competition and/or increased demand now that the war is over.

This has already been discussed. Do you think
that import costs may have changed as well
as gas prices? You expect Philips to sell at
a loss like Toshiba did to the tune of $1 billion?

Cost of transport and currency exchange.

Expect a lot of prices in the USA to go up due to these reasons.

They can increase the price because of the Monopoly in place. Phillips just bought 2 houses for St Charles Place.

You will find that $350 in January bought you 238 euros on 1st January and 223 euros right now. A decline of 15 EUR or nearly 24 current dollars. Given the numbers they probably expect the dollar to go down even more and since the player isn't out yet they up the price by $50.

Well, xboxboi, what does it matter to you? I mean, come on, really, what does it matter to you? Did $50 change your mind about getting this player? No, I don't think so. From your posts, all I see is someone who cares not one bit about buying Blu-ray. I think you are so f***'ing mad about the total defeat of your choice of format that all you can do now is sit at your computer and try to find negative pieces to publish about Blu-ray. If you are not going to join, then why don't you just move along and take up something new? I hear stamp collecting is nice.
