I can get VHS tapes for 50 cents at my local "Record Exchange". Should I hook my VHS up to my 57' 1080p DLP too?

Ah, it's the American version instead of the far superior UK version - that explains it. Seriously, if you're not going to go with David Attenborough for these things, don't even bother. He freaking owns!

That's not the only perk of the UK version (50 minutes more of footage and encoded at 1080p versus 1080i in the US version).

Yes I have the UK BD version myself. After analysis it was the best one to go for.

It was done for broadcast, and as such, 1080i is what one would expect I'd have thought... the UK BD version is 1080i50, is the UK HD DVD version different?

Ah, I didn't realize the source would be affected by the original intent (broadcast) but that makes sense. Perhaps there's no difference after all. However, the reviews here (even for the Blu-rays, which are identical) tell a different story:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/983/planetearth_us.html (read the video section in particular). Seems there's some misinfo making the rounds.

I could have sworn my HD DVD box stated 1080P, I'm going to double check when I go home to wait for the directv people and post back. I own the "british" version HD DVD for reference.

Edit
I confirmed that the HD DVD is 1080P, I can't imagin that the bluray is any different.

BBC versions on BD and HD DVD are 1080p

The Discovery Channel versions are all 1080i, and not with the better narrator.

BBC version is better. Get that I suggest.

They are? The box clearly says 1080i (and I definitely have the British BBC version). Is it a misprint? (I have no idea - my TV doesn't accept a 1080p input.)
