Default What kind of HD DVD movie deals will we see?

Now that HD DVD has given up the ship, what kind of prices can we expect to see at BestBuy and CircuitCity to flush out the movie inventory? $10 per title? $5 per title?

What about the players?

I would expect the players to decrease weekly in price until a final clearance at crunch time.

As for movies, I would be surprised to see sub $10 pricing in the near future at B&M. I would expect $15-20 initially on most catalog, a few more BOGO's, and no additional drop until the sales slow below a certain point. As for Amazon, I would expect BOGO's shortly, and sub $10 pricing also when sales have slowed and need a further bump. I for one, wish that all are priced under $10, because I will be all over it.

I think the best deals will be from people selling off their own stuff.

You probably won't see much of anything in terms of sales on software. I said before,

Instead, it's more profitable for them to eat the (I'll make up numbers here) $3 it cost to manufacturer the HD DVD in order to sell you something they will make $10+ on in the future rather than sell you something they make 0 profit on.

This is probably one of the reasons Paramount didn't clear out their Blu-rays after their exclusivity, and why you won't see Warner do the same. It especially makes sense for those studios to eat the cost of their discontinued product--why would anyone buy the other colored version sitting just down the shelf at 3-4x the price?

Any clearance will be have to be retail-based, and then will be limited because retailers will start to cut back now, making sure they don't end up with a ton of stock on hand they need to dump. Studios might even take the product back for reasons I outlined above.

BINGO!

Aurora's points are very well thought out, big props. I would have to agree with her. we might see some light "clearance" at some locations, but nothing in the super duper cheap area.
