Default MSRP of Walk Hard $44!?!?!?

LOL, and I thought Sony wanted Blu Ray to become mainstream.

I guess beating HD DVD is good enough for them.

I'll be picking up the SD DVD for $13.99, the first week when its on sale.

Exactly. So much for mainstream. This isn't LOTR we're talking about here.

The MSRP on the majority of new releases, save for I think Disney...is $39.99.

Sony is also an exception on their 2 Disc new releases, which are $43.98 or something.

Quite simply though, the MSRP on new releases across both formats and all studios are all within about 4 dollars of each other. Truthfully, the best priced studio for new releases is Disney, as all other studios charge in the same price range (39.99) with Sony going a few dollars more.

Granted this isn't pricing like MSRP for DVD...which is 29.99, $10 cheaper. So yeah, it's not as cheap as DVD...but I think anyone who has a proper handle on realistic and sensible pricing in a maturing market like this should know...prices shouldn't be as low as DVD. They don't need to be, and will fall accordingly with time. Just like how you shouldn't expect piles of sales and prices cuts in off holiday seasons, yet many complain about those disappearing after the WB announcement (when they should've been saying they disappeared after the holiday season, but people like to blame things on the wrong reasons for whatever reason).

It's a special edition, I think it comes with 2 discs.

You won't find it at any store for that price even if you wanted to.

I also love how you use the MSRP of the Blu-ray and compare it to a completely low and unrealistic street price for the DVD version of which the MSRP is $30.

Amazon has the Blu-ray version for just under $30, and the DVD version for just under $20-21 depending on the version you get.

Yeah, you will be able to find this for under thirty if you pre-order. Superbad was the same price, dude. This is like the fourth thread about the price of "Walk Hard" already. Get over it, guys. There are two cuts of the movie and -- in the vein of the last three Apatow productions that have been put out on DVD -- it's two discs with the second being loaded with hours of truly funny & worthy special features. Sounds like a good deal to me for only $4 more than the piss-poor presentation of "Wall Street".

how many HD DVD's have an MSRP of $39.99??? and yet most most of them can be bought for under $30...

walk hard can be bought on Amazon for $29.95 w/ free shipping and no tax for most.

what is your point???

Superbad and Spider-Man 3 both had 43.95 MSRP's, in store they were about 29.95 at most stores, save for the screwjob stores.

why freak out about something that has been historically a non-issue, since the only stores that sell at MSRP are borders, barnes/noble, and fye.

And what do you think the MSRP of the SD DVD is? It's not $13.99 I can tell you that much.

It's $28.95. But why let something as silly as a "fact" get dragged into this. I mean, it's not like any HD DVDs have high MSRPS. Oh, except almost every combo disc and its $39.98 list price.

MSRPs are high so that when stores sell them for their normal going price ($25-30) they can say "33% off!"

technically, i gotta disagree, even though i'm on your side. WARNER stopped screwing people with higher msrp's for combos, they went down to 34.95.

MSRP: Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. hell, the msrp on standard dvd is ridiculously out of date, but it's better than when they were 39.95 msrp in the old days (scary....1998 is now the old days in my eyes)

You do realize that there are some two disc special edition DVDs that come out with a MSRP of $35?
