And by the way, it's not a "deal" if after May you can only watch 1/4 of all movies released in high-def.

And if they are your friends, why tell them to buy into HD DVD? You know they are gonna be pissed at you in a few months.

Is this an attempt to promote HD DVD or a way to empty warehouse?

No, studios don't give a rat's about install base and how many players are sold. They care about software sold (I mean, afterall, Warner doesn't make an HD DVD player, do they). Besides, aren't all the HD DVD players now being marketed as an upconverting dvd player? And with the exception of the odd BOGO sale, HD DVD owners don't tend to buy much of anything (look at the Neilsens data).

To answer the question, it's a sale to clear out inventory. Nobody wants to keep selling and dealing with this stinking format that should have been buried a long time ago.

And as I said, it appears the HD DVD people aren't buying the movies. Have you been keeping up with the Neilsens that are released every week? HD DVD has never won a single week for over a year now.

I think if Toshiba sells enough HD DVD players, (and lowering prices will do that)....that one if not two of the present blu ray studios might become neutral....particularly if toshiba writes a check.

This battle is far from over folks.
