Very cool. Just pre-ordered my disc. Hoping there will be HD movie streaming.

This article makes me feel better.

Default Finally Netflix streaming has come to PS3

I've been waiting for this ever since they started allowing streaming on the Xbox 360.

This is great news!

Reports are that you have to insert a disc and it is using BD-Live functionality instead of being a native PS3 app. This makes me wonder what happens when you put it in a BD-Live compatible set top BD player?

From what I understand part of the reason they are initially using the disc format is that Netflix is still under an exclusivity contract with the Xbox 360. So putting it as BD-live works around that contract in some way. Netflix has said it will be included in a PS3 firmware up date late in 2010 . I suspect that is after the exclusvity contract with Xbox ends.

It will be interesting to see if the BD-Live disc works on regular Blu-ray players although I suspect it will have some sort of PS3 only functionality.

Very excited about this over all

In answer to your question Bouncy X, it only takes me a few seconds to have Netflix start streaming on my Xbox or on my computer. I have a very fast Cable connection though.

If it's BD Live, will it work on other blu-ray players, not just PS3?

I'm curious how or if, this will work for UK owners!

Can we get one of these BD-Live discs in the UK?
Will it run on a UK PS3?
Will we be able to stream/buy US films which havent been released here yet?

I get a terrible feeling this is going to be a US only thing and we in the Uk will get skimped on somehow.

Your terrible feeling is correct, Netflix is US-only. And don't blame Netflix, it has to do with studio rights.

If you makes you feel any better, we can't get BBC streaming on this side of the pond.

Is there any reason why this wouldn't work on any BD-Live capable player?

If there's a firmware solution in the works, it'd be *great* to have it sooner rather than later. BD Live has always been super-laggy for me, and I'm on a 16mb connection...I hope this won't be the same (stilted) experience with Netflix
