Interesting... since Windows 7 RTM'ed to developers back on August 8, I should probably load it up and find out if DD is already an included feature, or whether it will be released as an add-on later.

DD Plus is a waste of time.

The format in it self isn't bad. But it isn't used anywhere. HD DVD is dead, and how many Blu-rays have a DD+ track? 1 og 2.

So the only reason would be if streaming videos would begin to use ut.

I totally agree with you, me fellow avforumer.no'er

Does Win7 seriously not support TrueHD or DTS MA?

It is odd to include a format that effectively died when HD-DVD did. Don't think any BD uses DD Plus as oddly DD Plus on BD only literally supports 7.1, not 5.1. Which discounts most films.

PowerDVD is so much better than WMP for DVDs. Ultimately it matters what that supports not Windows/WMP anyway.

I'm gonna have to re-rip all of my HD-DVDs and insert the 1.5mb/s E-AC3 tracks this time, instead of converting them to 640kb/s AC3.

Does this just mean its included by default?

Surely Windows supports the lossless codecs too provided you have the right software installed (i.e. BD Playback software)...

Microsoft can always be counted upon to support the least common denominator of the status quo.

If they supported DTS as default, everything(up to & including HD MA) could be easily driven off of 1 folded-encode.

Instead, we're supposed to applaud them using a crazy 'half-breed' intermediate lossy codec that died before it began.

--And yes: with the right software, even Vista is HDCP-compliant. I have a BDR/HD-DVD that outputs lossless PCM decoded from DD True or HD MA on HDMI. ...but it sure would have been a TRUE 'state of the art OS' if M$ had gone native lossless with 7, instead.

I couldn't have said this better myself.

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.
