hd movie downloads?
Where or do they already exists? This is more safe than going the blu-ray/hd-dvd route.

Lame only if you have a 1080p TV. As for me, I'm still stuck in the dark ages of 720
Just don't have the $ right now to buy a new 1080 TV.
But back on the topic of downloads, there's rumors that XBOX Live may be partnering w/ netflix to make a huge library of titles avaliable to download off-line. Just a rumor now of course, but if it happens it may make the competition between physical media and downloads even greater."The war is not over"
Universal, now Paramount...FOX anyone?

I think that the PQ is ussually pretty good with the 360-but I am with you on the 24 hours. I have missed 2 movies I downloaded and will not do any more movie downloads. I will download the occassional TV show because it is considered a "purchase" and can be viewed unlimited times.Sony KDL 46V2500 / Sony KDS-60A3000

Microsoft has yet to offer any downloadable movies or tv shows to Canada, Europe, or Australia. 50% of 360 owners have no need for a 120GB hard drive. If Microsoft expects to sell "Elite" 360s outside the U.S, they need to offer up some content!

I would deffinetly agree with that, I would also say microsoft and toshiba need to make some deals here in the UK as where to sell HD DVD's as there are only online purchase stores, and one other store on the high street which sells both HD formats but only with a limited selection, and i would also reccommend them doing this pretty fast as blu ray is selling everywhere, including rentals in blockbuster, i beleive consumers in the UK will only see one side if microsoft and toshiba dont strike a deal soon
: 5 games: COD4, Colin mcrae rally, Pro evo 2008, Assasins Creed.......
: 6 games: Halo 3, GOW, tony hawks project 8.......

: Both dead formats, ones already dead

Why not yet???
Will I am curioius WHY can't we buy hd movies to "keep" right now! I want that. I want to have hd movies downloadable on say i-tunes. What are they waiting for? It's safer to buy downloadable movies than spending so much on a new format.

iTunes is just getting ready to get some HD downloads. But you guys must understand, the traffic iTunes receives on a daily basics on so high the with the HD content, it would make downloads even slower. And with it being HD, that takes long enough even on a high speed broadband. I have cable and sometimes when I download HD trailers on Apple they can take a few mins.
You must understand, much of our internet today is still running on the same copper wiring from way back in the 60's and the bandwidth and speed is just not adequate for mainstream HD downloads (not to mention the number of large hard drives you would need to keep these movies, and even though they are getting cheaper, the money will still add up). I am in no way trying to claim HD downloading is not a good thing, but I am saying that if it becomes too big too fast, our internet connection speed will decrease dramatically. Now I have stated in other threads that the future of the internet looks pretty bright.
First off, 1 thing they have been talking about for a few years now is the next generation, Internet2, which will consists of all new hardware, faster cabling, and much better security.
Second would be to completely remodel the current internet and implement it while still using our current connections.
Internet2 is actually already up and is in its very infant stages and the remodeling of our current internet hasnt even been given a go yet.
But I think once 1 of these 2 things are implemented, then we will see much more HD downloads, and personally, I think thats what Microsoft and Apple are waiting for right now.Mac Fan

I can tell you without being biased that the 720p HD movies downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace looks very good on my 61 inch DLP 1080p. So 720p moives are fine for rentals. You can keep movie for a couple of weeks if you haven't started watching, once you start watching you have 24 hrs.
There are tons of movies and even some double-feature horror flicks.
You can tell the difference when you go down to 480p movies. Movies like the Matrix Trilogy I wouldn't download in 720p because those are the type of movies I want in 1080p so I bought it.
You can start watching movies within 5 minutes because the movies are streamed. Also you can still chat, get messages from while you are watching movies but you can turn off if you don't want to be interrupted.
Be prepared to be addicted because they make it so easy to just click on a movie. I'm not the only one who thinks it's great as it is the top HD movie download service in the world.
So if you have a 360 you can't go wrong with Xbox Live MarketplaceA person who is laughable and detestable at the same time. Usually pretends to be a know-it-all,often
enhancing their stories, knowledge,
experience,and every thing in between
with pure bullshit.

Movie downloads are not the way to go,imho, for these reasons:
1) Long downloading time
2) No special features
3) PQ is not always that great
4) Compression of film is very thin to keep downloading from taking too long
5) For those downloads you get to actually keep in your hard drive, if your hard drive crashes, your out of luck.
I will stick to the physical medium for awhile. It's not going anywhere for awhile yet.My mancave:
