Default What the hell is Mempile and what might it mean for both formats?

On another forum I heard "mempile" brought up as the potential BD/HD DVD killer.

I did some googling and discovered that it's another optical format on a CD sized disc, only the laser doesn't reflect, it goes through the disc. It's also capable of up to 1 Terabyte.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this technology, or what they know. And I thought a discussion on what it could potentially mean for the current formats would be interesting.

I suggest googling mempile, but here are some links to get you started:

It's just like the holographic disk in the sense that people are saying it's gonna be a HD DVD/Blu-Ray killer. IMO, it's not gonna happen. I guarantee it will be another few years at absolute minimum before you start seeing these things go commercial. And even when they do, the market doesn't have room for another format right now, so they won't be widely adopted. The entertainment industry is going to make their money on these formats first until they look at other ones. Plus, consumers won't tolerate a another switch so soon.
