Serious HDMI Issues...

I finally thought I had my system together. I matched a Yamaha 565 up with a Directv HR23, Oppo 980H (for regular DVD's, SACD and DVD-Audio) and a LG for Blu-Ray and HD DVD's. I bought a monoprice HDMI switcher also. It seems I must be "over my limit" on HDMI inputs. The receiver seems unable to switch back and forth between HDMI components without giving me a green screen. Also it breaks up when playing sound on the Oppo. I'm ready to pull my hair out...When I add the monoprice switcher it really starts to get ugly. Just as soon as I think everything is playing nice....it doesn't. My tv is a first generation Sony XBR which I found out doesn't receive 1080p so I don't know if that is the real issue. Any help might keep my barber in business...
