Default can i get some help about these 2 home theater systems??

1. Panasonic SC-HT56 (cant find any reviews, except the ones on amazon)

2. sony ht-ss360.

im going to get one of these HTIBS. they are both under $230.00 (including taxes & shipping) which is PERFECT for my budget. i know that i can get better sound if i spend more, but my budget is firm. from what i've read both will do Lpcm.

out of these 2 choices ,which htib would you suggest?

They're equally unspectacular. I'd pick based on looks given these two choices.

Which in friendlier terms, translates to buy the least expensive of the two.

The Sony system uses speaker plugs that prevent upgrading so I'd choose the Panasonic based on that fact alone.

see if you can find them setup somewhere to listen to them. based on specs, the only potentialy limiting difference I can see is the aforementioned PITA plugs if you wish to upgrade the speakers at some point (not something I'd recommend without upgrading amp as well anyways).

GO give 'em a listen, or barring that, get which one you like the looks of better, barring that, get the less expensive one.

And yes, either one is likely preferrable to your TV and worth $200 to get a surround field going for you.

That is probably your best bet. Black Friday is literally less than a month away.

You can also get the best receiver you can possibly afford, then add speakers to it as you go along.....start out with 2.0.....then upgrade from there.

I like Favelle's idea personally... give that category a second vote if you're keeping tally.

Or with that budget, forget surround and enjoy good (used) stereo for now. Especially if there are any challenges in speaker placement, if you don't have dedicated space for HT it will easily be a hard job to get surround speakers to a good place.

That is exactly what I am planning on doing. Starting with a 2.0. I'm gonna start a new thread asking for recommendations.

My friend spent less than $200 on a home theater system that should had cost him at least $1000.

You can get the same deal too if only you are not planning to go for full HD sound.

Go to ebay and look for an Onkyo (or some other brand) receiver under $100 that is 5.1 sound with regular DTS and Dobly Digital. Spend no more than $100 and that includes shipping cost too.

Go to you local thrift store and buy some decent speakers, preferably older speakers from the 90s (older speakers are better constructed and sound better most of the time). Get a small speaker for the center, get two large ones for the front surround, and two small ones for rear surround. My friend got some bad ass large speakers (for front surround) with incredible bass and treble for only $70. You can find good deals too if you look hard enough

Finally go to radio shack and buy at least two 50 foot speakers wires, and buy an optical or digital coaxial cable.

Seriously if you spent your money wise enough, you will end up with a home theater system that will sound like a $1000 system instead of a home theater in a box that sounds like crap.

That can be a hit and a miss. Never know if what you're getting is a lemon or is close to death's door. I personally wouldn't buy used unless I knew the other party and/or had some type of warranty.

And I'd recommend monoprice.com for any wires or cables you might need. They are cheap, reliable and ship in a hurry.
