now that PS3 is going to do netflix streaming..... it's hard to recommend anything else these days. the only time i would recommend someone not getting the ps3 is if they absolutely feel the need to get the 7.1 analog audio out.

As far as that Dolby TrueHD vs. DTS HD-MA question, what about Blue Underground's releases? They seem to have dropped the practice by now, but their first few releases had both soundtracks. (That said I have no idea if they also use two different mixes or not.)

It was interesting to hear from THX, I hope they get back in touch and clarify whether they have changed their methodology or if the original web page was worded incorrectly, and if it has changed what discs are pre/post change.

"In my experience with the THX Optimizer, particularly the one found on T2: Skynet edition, the contrast and brightness patterns are off. The pattern with the THX logo with the back drop is clearly visible even though I have it set with the use of DVE and the Spears and Munsil disc. I mean way off. If you have the T2: Skynet disc available, pop it in and you will see what I mean."

For me anyway, the extra $100 is well worth it for DLNA network streaming, plus more storage and a consistently reliable and easily updated player, and if you're into Netflix streaming it's highly likely that you would be interested in DLNA streaming. For a lot of people the built-in wifi would be a big plus as well.
On the other hand, Netflix hasn't even come to the PS3 yet, and when it does it will require the use of a special Blu-ray disc (at least temporarily), which would be annoying. This brings up the question though, why isn't DLNA network streaming available on all these standalone players that have Netflix streaming? It seems like they would already have the hardware capability and the majority of the software capability.
