Default HD Cable Coax Setup Question

My brother just recently got into the HD world and I steered him into getting a Panasonic plasma TV. Well, I stopped by his place last weekend to check it out and he has coax running from the wall to the HD cable box and then another coax cable from the box into the TV.

Is he losing any picture quality by doing this instead of using HDMI or component from the cable box to the TV? It just struck me as odd as I've never seen someone's setup like this. I searched around the web a bit for an answer but couldn't come up with a definite one. Any help?

yes he is, coax cable can't carry the HD signal to the TV.... the reason has nothing to do with bandwidth and everything to do with the fact that that connector on TVs is standardized as SD analog. Get him using component cables at least, you should be able to pick those up cheap.

HD cable ONLY available using any of the following connection types:

Component cables (requires additional audio cables)

DVI (also requires additional audio cables)

HDMI (all in one, no additional cables needed at all)

Using the coax connection IS NOT going to provide HD quality video OR audio as crazzeto already posted.
