The documentation does not mention a 5:5 pulldown feature, so this display might use 3:2 pulldown and/or interpolation of new frames to reach 120HZ.
Maybe a future review on this model will uncover how 1080p/24 signals are handled on this model.

Of course it's that cheap... it's a Westinghouse. Might as well by a Vizio!

4:000 - 1 contrast is pathetic in this day and age.

I'm willing to wager this set cannot reproduce anything approching black.

You'd be right. When I used to sell televisions (retail) and people would ask about the price on a Westinghouse, I'd have them step back and watch it with the other tv next to it (a Samsung, Sony, or even an Insignia) and 9 times out of 10 they'd change their mind.

Westinghouse's are terrible!

Dynex 40" 1080p is $599 in Canada ($554 US)....if you're gonna go budget, might as well save ANOTHER $200...

"When any technology gets filtered down to the economy brands, it can be seen as a fairly good indicator that not only do people want it, but it’s here to stay."

Hmmmm...that's not what happened with HD DVD...

I use to have a 30" Westinghouse LCD Monotor. It was an ok LCD.DVD's running at 480p looked pretty good on the TV set. HD looked ok on it.I had it for about a year. Then one day I bought a Samsung LCD and man the Samsung LCD was way better then The Westinghouse TV. I kept The Westlinghouse thoe.I put it in my bedroom and made it my bedroom TV.Then a little later my kid niece's tube TV went out,and she needed another TV,so I was a nice uncle and let her have my Westinghouse.
But I still wanted to have a bedroom TV.So back out shopping I went again, and then I ended up buying another off brand TV set The 32" Vizio Plasma TV.And I have to say I thinks its a pretty darn nice TV.Yeah I'm well aware of the Vizio bashing by people on the web. But I been happy wiith The Vizio TV that I have. I have watched Blu-Rays,and HD DVD on it and I been very pleased with it.I've had it for almost a year. I still have the Samsung LCD too. I use both TV's all the time.

Sadly, we live in a world where recognized 'brand names' are bought up and slapped on inferior imported junk products.

This happens across virtually all product lines now, including TVs.

My memory is telling me there is some kind of a major caveat with warranty and Westinghouse HDTV's. A real deal breaker.

Westinghouse may not be the one to put as a centerpiece in your media room, but I gotta admit, that is a great price for a second tv/bedroom tv with a lot of real estate.

Not that this is the smackdown section, but what "economy brands" were producing HD DVD? RCA is the lowest brand that comes to mind, but I don't consider Toshiba, LG, or Samsung one of the economy brands.

Neither do I. I was talking about the quote "When any technology gets filtered down to the economy brands, it can be seen as a fairly good indicator that not only do people want it, but it’s here to stay."

Some were talking about HD DVD being priced so low that it was an "economy brand". But it wasn't here to stay.

I was an original HD DVD supporter, so I wasn't bashing it. I've got an A20, an A30 and an A35.

Cool, no worries. I knew you weren't bashing, I just didn't understand the business model because HD DVD never got to the economy brand point....although I believe they were trying to...
