Default If your receiver doesn't bypass HDCP...

what can you do? I have a pioneer 917V and have been told by pioneer that it is having "HDCP problems." Is this something that can be fixed or is it useless? I'm using an LG hd dvd/blu ray player. Any help for this frustrated newbe is much appreciated.

Audio/video drops with an LG BH200? Its the player. I suffer from the same with a Denon AVR. I don't think you can do anything about it besides pray for an LG firmware that fixes it.

I thought it might be the receiver. I also tried hooking up a Pioneer Elite 59avi upscaling dvd player. I got a picture but no sound then when I switched inputs on the tv I lost the picture as well. Any suggestions why that might be?

What connections are you using? I'm not familiar with your receiver.

I'm using HDMI from the LG100 and the Pioneer upscaling dvd player to the Pioneer 917 receiver then a HDMI to the tv. When I called pioneer they said it was a HDCP issue that the receiver wasn't allowing the signal's video to reach the tv, the audio worked thought that might have been working the through the optical cable because the 917's manual said that I needed it. I just don't see at this point why it has HDMI inputs and outputs if they aren't going to work. Any help again might save this receiver's life.

Your problem probably is the receiver. Its an older model that doesn't do TrueHD and DTS HD MA.

so you don't think there is any point in getting it "looked at." If its just not going to work I need another receiver I can start saving with the money I don't use to get it "diagnosed." I still dont' understand the premise of HDMI on a receiver if it's not going to work with hd. What's the point...grumble..grumble?

You can try changing the order you power up each device. If I were you i'd save for a receiver that is capable of decoding TrueHD and DTS HD MA. The first HDMI receiver made were stupid. They only had HDMI "pass through" and were bug ridden. You might be able to get sound and video out of it but it won't be lossless.

Do you know any trust worthy affordable brands and models. I really appreciate your help. I struggled with every setting in the book for six hours on Sunday trying to figure it out.

Default 6.1

I'm trying to put together a 6.1 system. Do you know which receiver with those capabilities allow me to go to 6.1?

None of them. But both the Onkyo and the Pioneer are 7.1 receivers:

The Onkyo:

Dolby Digital EX

Quote:
Dolby Digital EX takes the Dolby Digital 5.1-channel setup one step further with an additional center surround channel (reproduced through one or two speakers) for extra dimensional detail and an enveloping surround sound effect.
