Good for the UK. I wish the US regulators would grow some spine instead of looking the other way.

Default About time...

I think Samsung's ad campaign has always been suspiciously misleading. One of Samsung's sales reps told me that the company originally was launching the LED line under the moniker "Luxia" (which sounds vaguely like Bravia), but at the last minute changed their marketing to simply LED. My clients have a hard enough time differentiating Plasma and LCD, much less the so-called LED TV's. And don't get me started on the Edge-Lit vs. Backlit Local Dimming LED TV's...

on the surface, the ad doesn't seem all that bad... I honestly didn't even notice what was wrong.. But yeah, after reading the explanition I"m in agreement. There have been a lot of questions here regarding "which is best, LCD or LED" with posters not realizing they're the same thing. Good for the UK.

Good. Anecdotal, but many people I know have asked me about Samsung's LED TV's and I have had to explain how it's still LCD. Some even thought this was OLED already coming to market in large format TVs...

I think Samsung is telling retailers to make that marketing difference, I've seen more than one online store having choices Plasma, LCD and LED. And when you browse them the 6000-, 7000-, and 8000-series Samsungs are under LED when older Samsungs with led back lights (if still available) and Sony X4500 (is it Bravia XBR8 there?) are under LCD.

Im glad the UK did something about that. I cant even begin to tell you how many customers of ours are shocked to hear that the new super thin TV that they've been obsessing over is actually another LCD. I have nothing against Samsung, but i do my best to educate people that they arent the only ones making LED based LCD's. Personally i prefer the picture on LG's LH90 series. The intergrated picture wizard feature helps bring out a more true-to-life image and is very easy to use.

hear, hear!! vinney97...

someone needs to call these large companies to task for knowingly promoting misleading information... you can't tell me manufacturers cant find a way, for example, to promote their new BD Players without promoting that their blu-ray player supports the dts-HD Master Audio codec, only to have to find out on a review website that it can't internally decode DTS-HD MA audio - without downloading some future firmware. This is criminal.

shame, shame that US regulators let manufacturers still get away with this blatant deception.
