They mention a 40-incher...With LG I couldn't care less but I'm curious as to how they define the "not-too-distant future." Hopefully, 2010.

Panasonic plans a 37" OLED for 2012. There will be no "large" OLED panels in 2010.

"....mass production of large 37 inch OLED TV by 2012..."

Since when is a 37" TV considered large?

I notice that there is no price on this new 15" OLED that was shown - and it will initially only go on sale in Korea.

IMO - they didn't want the audience to ROTL-LMAO during the presentation.

Yea, likely. That was the first thing I looked for in the article.

Agreed. I guessing 4 grand for this 15 inch model.

Depends on how quickly manufacturing techniques mature:

New Production Method Could Make OLEDs Cheaper Than Newspapers

Not sure why that was in the watercooler...

What can we say -- it's a near final build of LG's 15-inch OLED TV that's set to go production in Korea before the baby New Year can suckle at the big one-oh. We could say it's beautiful, that even motion looked good pushing genuine blacks on this razor thin panel. But we wouldn't want to rub your noses in the fact that we're at IFA and you're not. Perhaps this will make you feel better: by the time it makes it Stateside in February or March it'll be carrying a price tag right around $2,500. Really, but it's Wireless TV-capable and that's gotta be worth something.

Oh, and LG tells us that its 32- and 42-inch OLED panels are on schedule and due to be released sometime in 2010. Yes, 2010. No word on price but it's going to be tres, tres expensive.

Honestly for a 15" TV it makes perfect sense to be in the neighborhood of 720P (this is plasma 720p res). Hopefully with new manufacturing techniques being implemented we'll have somewhat affordable 42" 1080p units before too long... And maybe bigger.

After having (and being used to having) a 60" screen, I can't imagine stepping down in size regardless of the quality.

like any new technology, OLED is starting out in smaller production sizes and will be moving up as manufacturing techniques improve.
