I guess Dolby is rolling over and playing dead? Sucks, sounds like they had the most consumer friendly 3D solution... Which I think is important with 3d.... Since even among tech enthusiests there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for it.

BD is all about the highest PQ and AQ available to the consumer.

Now you want to trash that?

When it comes to 3D - you really want the highest resolution you can get. Or you may experience eye strain and headaches.

I'd be interested in seeing how a porn flick would look using 3D technology.

I think Cameron is deluding himself. 3D may become a slightly more popular gimmick, but it will never be more than a gimmick, till they develop a system that doesn't involve wearing glasses. Not to mention, having seen the trailer for Avatar (Yes, I know, in only 2D) it doesn't look to be the ground breaking film he's making it out to be, in either the CGI, design work, or story.

i surely hope 3D isn't the future. its all well and good for some special movies and events and whatnot but i sure wouldn't want it to ever become the norm. when i'm home i just wanna sit/lie on the couch and watch tv and movies...and play my video games. i dont want to be "immersed" into anything.

maybe i'm a minority, maybe i'm not but yeah......entertainment doesn't always have to be an EXPERIENCE!!!!!!...thats what movie theaters are for. but this future of 3D movies and tv...video games where "YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER" or whatever gimmick they have....yeah i dont want none of that.

i'm sure i'll see avatar in theaters but i sincerly doubt i'll see the 3D version but even if i do..and even if it blows my mind, it wont mean i want everything to be that way.

to quote Jurassic Park:

"....were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Actually I was an HD DVD proponent durring the war because it offered the best combination of equal (in terms of end user perspective) bluray quality and value. I supported dolby for the same reason. In the case of 3D the value aspect is even more critical. I can't think of very many people who will actually be willing to drop tens of thousands or even thousands on this gimmic.

Lol! Perfect quote!

I agree with you a lot there... I've nothing against 3D, but can you honestly see people relaxing back on their couch, popping in a disc, and then donning a special pair of glasses?

The 3D movies will become the ones that you show the best 10 minutes of to your friends when they come round, to show off your gear, but otherwise they'll hardly ever get out of their cases.

The studios, broadcasters and CEM's believe people will pony up for 3D. You can't ignore what is going on in the theaters as far as peoples desire to see 3D - and pay extra for it.

buying a ticket to see a movie in 3d is a far cry from ponying up for a brand new TV, bluray player and then being told you need monsters latest cable. Even for a knowlegable shopper that's one hell of a lot to ask... Let alone the deffensless unknowing customer who'll fall into monster's trap.

this is a near pefect echo of my own thoughts.

I've been to 3D movies at theatres but i have no deisre to have that in my home with the uncomfortable glasses. It just doesn't seem practical. Also, I haven't jumped on the Avatar band wagon yet either. Some here are making this movie out to be the second coming, I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

So this is about Monster Cables?

I believe the number for penetration of HDTV's in the USA is 50% - the highest % in the world. So there are many people who have yet to purchase an HDTV. BD's % is much lower than that - about 15% when all PS3's are counted.

For those who wish to buy a 3D HDTV and BD player - they may not have either yet. So they will pay the premium ovrt regular HDTV equipment. And of course there will be (as always) the early adopters - their HDTV's and BD players are problaly getting "long in the tooth" by the time 3DTV is released.
