I believe that announcement is for Japan only (and maybe for Europe). It is definitely NOT for the USA.

give us Blu-Ray recorders that will work with our directv/tivo type receivers.

not in a tv? probably just for asian markets. lame electronics companies are preventing this stuff from hitting north america.

Actually it's the MPAA that is preventing BD recorders here in the USA.

Sharp chose not to participate in that shootout. If their HDTV is so good, wouldn't they want all to know it? Or are they keeping it a secret?

not necessarily. Maybe they didnt think it was worth wasting a 2000$ TV how would I know. With that kind of logic wouldnt LG and Toshiba NOT want to be compared directly against a sony XBR 9 and a pioneer plasma and look like total crap? Does that mean any other TV besides those 10 are totally worthless?

Why would they "waste a $2000 TV?" They would either have a store sell it or take it back and use it for a trade show.

Who used the word "worthless?" Not me.

Did you see what was done to all the HDTV's in the shootout? They were calibrated - giving them the best look the calibrators could get out of them.
