My heart sank when I realized these weren't backlit LED LCDs TVs but edgelit TV's.

When are truly backlit LED LCDs going to hit the mainstream? I'll take the advantage of massive increases in contrast over the dubious superslim (with a huge cost in image quality when the lights are off) advantage of edgelit LED tvs.

Now, if only it was made by a reputable manufacturer.

I was under the impression that LG WAS a reputable brand....not a Sony or Samsung..but not a Dynex and Emmerson either. Kind of a mid brand.

Both LG and Samsung are Korean competitors. Panasonic and Pioneer would be examples of Japanese competitors who are generally considered in the upper echelon of mass consumer electronics.

Kind of. At one point LG was a low budget brand in the same league as dynex etc.

Wow, that sure would look gorgeous hanging above my fireplace, though. Still, not gonna get one.

My secondary TV is in my livingroom and is a 42" Panasonic Viera 1080p plasma screen. I've got a Samsung BD-UP5000 connected to that for all my HD needs. No surround sound there, though.
