Is this a good brand or what? I haven't heard of them before, and was wondering what the general thought on the brand was.

Seriously? You've never heard of Onkyo before? Probably more HDD members have their AVRs than any other. They're a terrific budget brand, you get an excellent value for your dollar. I run their 605 model which was one of the first afforable AVRs to decode all the lossless codecs.

I had an Onkyo HTIB. It was miles ahead of the other HTIBs I've heard. The receivers bundled with these are actually decent and you could use them if you decided to upgrade the speakers/subwoofer.

That being said if you follow Audiogon you would most likely be able to get a much nicer system for a lot less.

No I honestly haven't heard of them. I'm not huge into surround sound (my current one is a mix of a Marantz reciever, Event speakers, and a Boston Sub).

But I was thinking of upgrading to an HDMI setup.

Well if you're running Martantz I might skip Onkyo honestly. They do have some higher quality (sounding) products but I'd say if you want higher end sound (I'm guessing you do?) then I'd look else where for a better over all package. You'll spend a pretty penny, but if pick up something like an Onkyo 607 or 707 (or equivilent) there's a good chance you'll be dissapointed... Who knows, maybe even with the 807, or 906.. Denon might well be better, or a competeing Marantz product if you're looking for something in a surround setup for theater.

hey which is the cheapest Onkyo? Many US retailers do not ship up here due to product exclusivity agreements. Can you recommend a US source? PM me if it is confidential.thanks!
