Looks like Sharp is adding cyan and yellow into the mix as they announce a five-primary-color LCD which they say will accurately reproduce over 99% of colors.

Why not include magenta as well then?

Well, as compared to the 21:9 television philips is talking about, this is actually a television upgrade I could get interested in. Better color reproduction is one of the next big steps, imo, considering a higher than blu-ray resolution (say, 4K) would require a screen so large to really appreciate the upgrade that its impractical for all but the most die-hard home theater enthusiast. Of course, with Bang & Olufsen's new 103" plasma TV with all the bells and whistles I guess there are some folks who could take advantage of 4K.
Better color reproduction wouldn't be minded by me at all, though I wouldn't pay much more for a TV with such in the short term since my TV now produced colors to my liking for the most part. I can't imagine this should be much more expensive to produce TVs with these new colors in the mix, but according to the article it sounds like it won't be consumer friendly for some time.
