    Default Best Buy discontinuing DLPs?

    Hello all.

There is only one DLP model carried by Best Buy now ... and that is an online outlet item.

Why has BB apparently stopped selling DLPs?

I asked through their online cust svc, but didn't get a straight answer.

I wouldn't doubt it, it's obvious they're not big sellers... And with only 1 TV company making them... Just not supprising. It sucks, DLP's are great! Oh well, thin is in right?

Yeah, I assumed it was sales ... but I figured that, even though thin is in, you still got a lot of TV with the DLPs.

Oh well ... as long as Samsung continues to make the parts, I'll be ok.

So, it seems that the "death" of DLP is on the horizon.

True ... I only wish I had waited a little longer to get mine ... I'd have gotten the 1080 for almost the same price as my 720!

Yeah, I ended up in that situation as well... But then again I'm not unsatisfied with the quality of my 720P toshiba.

Oh, I'm also very satisfied with my Samsung 720p. I got it for about $899 (brand new) a little over a year ago ... and you're right ... they are great! I love mine.

I feel the same way about the SRXD tech. The projection type tv's give you the inches. I have a 60A2000 and wish that I had a 60A3000. Other than a 20,000 70 inch LCD that is a few years old and doesnt really count, Sony's biggest set is a 52" LCD. I would be interested in the new Mitz laser sets if they got more sane in their pricing.

Yes, thin may be "in", but I've always had plenty of space and prefer the largest screen size possible. I've been totally spoiled by the 57" screen size of my Sony CRT rear projection, and wouldn't settle for anything smaller for the main TV in my home theater room. I got my Sony in the Fall of 2005, getting a great deal on it as Ultimate Electronics was blowing out all their CRT rear projections to make room for DLP and LCD. It's been a great TV, but I've had the bug to get a new TV for at least a year - it only has one DVI connection for digital input, and only accepts a maximum of 1080i input. My Onkyo 605 AV receiver is 1080p, so I have to be careful to power up the TV first to the DVI input, then the receiver and then the blu-ray player, or the BD player reverts to "Auto" mode for HDMI and decides 1080p is just fine, resulting in a blank screen on my TV. I have to keep an RCA composite cable connected so when this happens I can switch to the composite input & see the setup screen to set it back down to 1080i; firmware updates also make it revert to Auto mode.

But, I avoided DLP - the PQ looks nice (nice than LCD IMO), but I've read of too many problems with lamps needing expensive replacement, rainbow effects, and just don't like the idea of a spinning color wheel making my TV picture. I've been looking real close at the Samsung HL61A750, a 61-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP. But, this weekend I pulled the plug on a projector - a Panasonic PT-AE900U, LCD projector, used off of eBay. It's only 720p native res, but accepts 1080p input, and the price was right, under $700 shipped. This will be my first try with a projector system, and I want to see if I really like it before going all out with a 1080p system. The home theater room has some challenges with lighting - it's a family room off the kitchen, and the kitchen has a skylight, and sliding patio door & window facing the west. Going to make my own screen, trying to decide between 100", 110" or 120".

Yeah I shyed away from DLP for the worries about rainbows and spining wheels whether the issues were real or imagined. I want to go bigger from my 60 next time, likely in a couple years. I am still on my first bulb, but on a second light engine. I will try and get a new light bulb under my warrantee when it dies at some point.

I dont care if its super thin I just want high quality pic and I would prefer less heat and fan noise.

The Sony SXRD LCoS A3000s aren't the best anymore. Check out CNet the Samsung LED DLPs are better. http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-t...tag=prod.txt.1

I just grabbed a 61" because Samsung are phasing them out. I should have grabbed the 67". The LED DLPs don't have a bulb or color wheel. No color wheel = no rainbows. These might be the last best affordable RPTV unless Mitsbishis makes a LED DLP or the Laserviews come WAY down in price. I had just replaced a Sony E3000 RPTV. The LED DLPs are BRIGHT and have plasma like black levels. My sony had terrible glare and SSE was pretty bad too. My HL61A750 looks great in a brightly lit room. Grab a HL67A750 before they disappear. http://www.samsung.com/us/system/con...7A750_spec.pdf

61" are under $1500 and 67" are under $2000. Amazon and BB are out not carrying them anymore. I see BB has 61" in their Outlet. They are getting harder to find. Here is the AVS thread.

I'd like a front projector but I don't have an entire dark room to dedicate right now. My HL61A750 looks great for everything from film to everyday television to gaming. Nice and bright in the middle of the day with the curtains wide open. I can't even watch my Sony anymore. I had to cover windows and block light sources to watch it. I like what this guy said at AVS... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1029686

    There are three types of AVSers from my experiences on here;

    1: HARDCORE
    2: Enthusiasts
    3: Sales

Hardcore folks are people like us, we're the muthafukin Pharaohs with Bada$$ Rear Pro TVs closest to the look and feel of the heavenly Motion Picture Cinemas. Only the Grand Wizards with front protectors are deemed just as worthy.

Enthusiasts, are folks who believe in false prophets that tell them that projection is passe and their LCDs gives better cinematic goodness

Sales, are the infidels that spread the LIES to the enthusiasts that have angered the AV Gods which as a result are killing off RPTVs and soon Plasmas. Watch out for these guys, they're shape shifters and can mimic your bestest of friend. But their end goal is possession of your soul.

It's Sales that are pushing unholy cadences, e.g. 48/72/120hz smooth motion etc. that alter the original film and what the director intended.

So, we, the true believers of the almighty Cinematography believe only in what was intended. And if judder is given, than so shall it be.
