Question about Tivo HD DVR
I plan on getting a Tivo HD DVR very soon. My question is, can I hook up any external hard drive for extra storage or do I need the "My DVR Expander" by Western Digital that is supported by Tivo? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

The answer is yes and no:
Are you OK with hacking your Tivo and voiding your warrenty?
Then yes you can hook up a number of different hard drive solutions to your Tivo ranging up to 1TB of disc space.
If the answer to that was no, then by a my expander and you only get up to 500GB of space.
Be sure to ask your cable provider about when tuning adapters (particularly if your on TWC) are going to be available to you.

Yeah... I think I'm just gonna go with the "My DVR Expander." It seems like the easiest thing to do. I was hoping I could buy a cheap TB Hard Drive and just plug it in, but oh well. As for the cable, we are gonna get rid of our DirecTV and just go with an HD Antenna. We tried it out this weekend and are pleased enough with it, but we need a DVR!!!! How in the world would wifee be able to watch The Young & The Restless on the weekends?
I am worried though when football season comes back around. No Monday Night Football is gonna be rough.

I gave up cable a few years ago for OTA HD programming and have never looked back. Only time I get the cable itch is when College Football season comes around, but then I just watch the network tv games.
I almost went with a Tivo box, but went with a HAVA HD titanium wifi box instead. Was $100 cheaper and allows me to watch and record my parent's DirectTV HD channels as well as blu rays. It's basically a slingbox that allows you to record. Have a $99 1TB external hard drive attached.
Didn't take more than 15 minutes to put on each laptop in the house. To buy or not to buy? That is the question.... -
