How would the ones in a 805 compare to a Denon in the same price range?
The Dacs difference between the Onkyos and the Denons, is nothing to fret about, you will not notice the difference.
Denon used the TI PCM-1791A
Onkyo used the TI PCM-1796A

Their specs are a little different, but your ears won't know a thing.

Don't base your purchase on that figure.

But, I do recommend the Onkyo 805, if you can find one. Or a refurb from a good reputable place, with a good policy for returns. The 805 will beat the Denon 3808 on many aspects, like power, THX, and more importantly, price.

Also the 876, for more money, but only $100 over your budget, is an extraordinary receiver with much more features that could be very worthwhile.

Cheers,

LOTR

Congratulations! The 876 is a heck of a receiver, plus for the price, it's a
no-brainer. This is the smartest move that you just made.

I've read great things about the 806, but if you can fit it in the budget, go w/ the 876

Wow, I own an 806, and have had the "blue dots" problem. They only occur in dark scenes, and I had thought it was my Optoma HD80 projector that was causing it. Thanks for the heads up, I was unaware that the problem could be in my receiver. Maybe time to upgrade to an 876? (I got my 806 brand new for $550)

Nice, how much did you pay for it? Do you notice a big difference between the 806?

How do the new x07s compare to the x06s (DAC/Amp-wise)? Are they are a downgrade again like the x06s were compared to the x05s?

I am curious about that as well. I miss the power of my 805..and I definitely noticed the difference between that and my 806. Should I upgrade to the 807, or 876?
