Default Some info on Onkyo's new receivers

    http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/txsr3-607.html

The 607 is going to have 6 HDMI inputs

I think the PL IIz will be dumb but whatever, they seem to be making a big deal about it.

I guess it will all depend on how the *07 series is put together as compared to the *06 series. Onkyo is in a tough position, moving from *05 to *06 was a clearer choice (particularly at the bottom end) where you got a fantastic upgrade in value for the dollar. It doesn't read like the *07 really offers a whole lot that *06 owners are missing out on.

But then again there are a host of *05 owners like my self that are eventually, one day (not soon for me) going to upgrade AVRs. For some maybe the *07 line is it.

Ya we will still have to wait for build quality reviews/opinions. This year Yamaha was a let down, hopefully Onkyo isnt following their footsteps.

After using/hearing that Denon last night Im pretty sure that will be the name on my next receiver.

The 507 looks to be a steal. I'll be deliberating between it and deals on the 606.

Oh man... I really wish I had all those HDMI ports. My 705 has only 3 and I have one of them attached to 4 port switch with 3 of them being used there. Bottom line is that I'm running out of ports. However, I KNOW the wife isn't going to let me go anywhere near a new receiver for another couple years.

Does anyone know what that "universal port" is for on the back?

It's a proprietary input. They mention it in the article as being for a HD radio tuner or iPod dock.

What would you need 6 HDMI inputs for? I could come up with a use for 4 or 5(360, PS3, TV service and HD DVD player and maybe a PC) but 6?

I guess it's future proofing, but that's a lot of crap hooked up to your amp/tv

I already have 4 HDMI devices, if I buy a PS3 at some point that's 5 right there.

Onkyo is dropping new products faster than anyone else. Wow. Curious to see how the 507 performs and how it streets pricewise.

Dropping? As in coming out or price?

Yamahas 2009 lineup was out first, as a matter of fact I saw them at my local AV store on Tuesday, the white display leaves a lot to be desired which is suprising I say that because I HATE the yellow.

Now that I think of it, if you meant price Yamahas went down as well, but they cheapened up a bit, we're not sure about the Onkyos yet.

Releasing products. They released the three revisions, 605/606/607 very quickly after each other.

Price I'm not so sure about. In 2008, most of the bargain HD audio AVRs were in the $300-400 street price range. All manufacturers seems to be moving the low end of decoding into the $250-350 street price range.

Personally, my next AVR may be a bargain next year on one of the new 2009 receivers. Since I have very limited space, a mere 6" of height clearance, the Yamaha 565/6250 or Onkyo 507 are looking like front runners. Still waiting to see if Pioneer or anyone major makes a smaller AVR with HD Audio decoding. I may also splurge and buy a Cambridge Audio receiver, nothing they make is very large.

I have 5 HDMI inputs, 4 are being used and I still need to connect my PC which has HDMI for video, so mine will be full, always nice to have an extra, since ya never know what might need it!

Onkyo is okay but they do tend to run hot. I tend to not have receiver loyalty (other than a nearly 20-year-old Pioneer that is still kicking today and doesn't produce anywhere near the level of heat that my 605 does) but I think it would be a better idea to save/get the last line of Pioneer's Elite models. It has a pretty amazing amplifier: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU.../ci.SC-05.Kuro
