Possibly looking to upgrade subwoofer
I am currently working with this...
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKW204-R...6805834&sr=1-1
And it just isn't satisfying my needs. I have to practically crank the knob all the way down so that it won't give me any distortion in scenes in say Cloverfield or The Dark Knight. I need a subwoofer I can have cranked up without having to worry about whether what I am watching will cause a distorted rumbling sound.
I have heard to stay away from Polk so I have been looking at Velodyne and this subwoofer is at my max price range and seems like it could handle what I want from the reviews.
http://www.amazon.com/Velodyne-Impac...6806130&sr=1-1
Any suggestions or opinions? I would also like to point out I am a dummy when it comes to the technical aspects of subwoofers so average joe language would be appreciated...haha. Thanks. -

HSU STF-1 is on sale for < $300 shipped right now.
If you can stretch another $50, eD always has their A2-300 for $350 shipped.
Internet direct subs offer significantly better value than what you're going to find in stores or from Amazon. -

Subs around $300:
HSU STF-1 On sale $254.00 from HSU website
BIC H100 ~$300 on Ebay
ED A2-250 $325 from Elemental Designs
I would save up and go for a sub in the $400 - $500 range:
Look at options from ED, HSU, SVS, & Outlaw Audio-Wayne
Samsung PN58A650, Denon AVR-1909, Denon 2900, Toshiba HD-XA2 , Sony PS3 40GB, Boston Acoustics E70's (LRC), E60's Surrounds, FIOS HD DVR,Outlaw Audio LFM-1c, Harmony 880

I really can't afford to go past $300 also I don't have a gigantic room and I am not looking for the best subwoofer in the world just one that I will be happy with for at least a few years and one that doesn't get easily distorted. But thanks for the opinions guys. So now stay away from Velodyne AND Amazon? Elemental Designs, HSU, SVS look at those subs.

Well I figured out how to get 9% cashback from Live.com and ended up ordering the Premier Acoustic PA-120 for $208.39 shipped. Hopefully it satisfies my needs and is a noticeable upgrade from the sub I have now. Thanks guys.

I haven't heard bad things about Velodyne subs, so even though they are at the high end of your price range, I would still check them out. Probably just about any specialized brand would do a better job than the subwoofer supplied as part of a HTIB package by a receiver manufacturer (e.g., Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer, etc.).
‘Da rig so far:

Toshiba HD-A30 HD-DVD Player
Toshiba DVR-5 VHS/DVD-Recorder
Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-ray Player
Sony BDP-S760 Blu-ray Player
Sony PlayStation 3 (160 GB—originally 60 GB)
Xbox 360 HDMI-120 GB (but not an Elite) + HD-DVD Add-on Drive
Yamaha HTR-6180B (RXV-863) Receiver

Well I tried doing the cashback search for it but that was pretty much useless but I pretty much just followed what this site says.
http://blogs.msdn.com/livesearch/arc...e-on-eBay.aspx
You basically just search the web for your item and click the Ebay ad. Then when your on Ebay you should see the cashback symbol at the top which means you got it working. -
